Zac Gallen To Pitch Simulated Game Saturday
3 years agoArizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Zac Gallen (elbow) will throw a three-inning, 45-pitch simulated game on Saturday as he continues to rehab from a partial tear in his UCL, according to Zach Buchanan of The Athletic. Gallen has been out since May 7 with this injury, but it appears for now that he will not have to undergo Tommy John surgery and will be able to return this season barring any setbacks. Prior to the injury, Gallen was 1-1 with a 3.04 ERA over five starts, with 32 strikeouts in 26 2/3 innings of work. Managers should continue to monitor Gallen's progress, but it's possible he could return to action before the All-Star break. That being said, given the nature of his injury and the chances that he suffers a full tear and would have to undergo surgery, managers may want to consider trying to trade away Gallen upon his return and after he makes a couple starts, in order to try and get some value from him.
