4 years agoMiami Marlins rookie pitcher Zach Thompson (ankle) made his major league debut on Monday against the Boston Red Sox but was forced to leave after pitching just three innings. Thompson pitched decently against a strong lineup, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out one. Thompson hadn't been pitching particularly well in Triple-A, but he lined up for Monday's start. At the end of the third inning, he seemed to roll his ankle while fielding a comebacker and making the throw to first for the out. After the game, manager Don Mattingly said Thompson was "fine" and that he was removed for precautionary reasons and because he was close to his pitch count. The fact that he came out and tried to warm up for the fourth inning makes that questionable, but Mattingly has been worse than questionable himself all season long anyway. Thompson isn't worth much fantasy consideration.--David A Marcillo - RotoBaller
