Zach Thompson Pulled After Four No-Hit Innings
4 years agoMiami Marlins rookie starting pitcher Zach Thompson threw four innings of no-hit ball in Sunday's start against the Chicago Cubs. He was pulled after just 73 pitches, having allowed an unearned run on three walks and seven strikeouts. There was no logical reason for Thompson to come out of the game, but then you remember Don Mattingly manages the Marlins and you just shake your head and feel bad for the players. Thompson has been excellent in his first few big league starts, posting a 1.50 ERA in his first 12 innings to go with 14 strikeouts. As long as he's eventually treated like a major league pitcher and not like whatever Mattingly treated him as in this one, Thompson could be developing some streamer appeal in mixed leagues.
