Zack Collins Eyes Opening Day Roster Gig
4 years agoChicago White Sox catcher/designated hitter Zack Collins is firmly convinced that he should be breaking camp with the big league club, saying Thursday that he should "100 percent" be on the Opening Day roster. Collins has clobbered the ball during Cactus League play, slashing .391/.517/.522 across 13 games. Yasmani Grandal is entrenched as the team's everyday catcher, but he can also be moved over to designated hitter on occasion, which would allow Collins to slot into action. Taken with the 10th overall pick in the 2016 MLB draft, Collins has hit just .167 over his first 36 Major League outings with 44 strikeouts in 102 at-bats. Despite his blossoming confidence, he is not yet a fantasy relevant commodity, especially as he continues his battle for an Opening Day roster gig over the next two weeks.
