Zack Wheeler Can’t Replicate Dominance But Throws Quality Start
7 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Zack Wheeler had a fantastic 2018 debut last week that saw him allow one run and strike out seven Miami Marlins across seven innings. He couldn’t quite replicate that against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday, but he still put forth a valiant effort. Wheeler pitched six innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out two. A 1.60 WHIP isn’t helping anyone, nor is a 2:3 K:BB ratio, but for Wheeler’s first real test in a while, a quality start should be considered a success. He’ll likely get one more start with the Mets before heading back to Triple-A Las Vegas with starting pitcher Jason Vargas ready to make his debut after injuring his hand during spring training.
