Zack Wheeler Settles For No-Decision After Latest Gem
3 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler pitched 7 2/3 innings of shutout ball on Friday, but had to settle for a no-decision as the combustible Philly bullpen couldn't hold the lead. Wheeler allowed just four hits and didn't walk a batter while whiffing nine in his latest brilliant outing. The right-hander owns a 2.05 ERA supported by a 2.33 xERA and an elite 0.94 WHIP this season while striking batters out at a healthy 31 percent rate. Wheeler's 12.7 percent swinging-strike rate and 29 percent CSW (called-plus-swinging strikes) rate are both above MLB average and mean he should continue to have success. He'll look to wrap up his stellar first-half with a juicy matchup versus a Cubs lineup that has struggled against righties this year.
