3 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler allowed three runs across seven innings, but took the loss as he was outdueled by Nationals starter Max Scherzer in game one of Thursday's doubleheader. Wheeler was not sharp in this game as he allowed seven hits and two walks with just five strikeouts. Still, he managed to get to the top of the seventh with the score tied at one, but Wheeler would allow a hit and a two-run homer to catcher Yan Gomes to take the loss despite getting credit for a complete game. The right-hander has cooled off a bit, but he's still sporting a crisp 2.45 ERA with a 1.02 WHIP and a 30 percent strikeout rate. Fantasy managers should keep Wheeler locked into starting lineups for a rematch with these Nationals next week in Washington.--Mike Schwarzenbach - RotoBaller
