3 years agoGreen Bay Packers outside linebacker Za'Darius Smith, who was a second-team All-Pro in 2020, is a candidate to be released this offseason. Such a move would free up around $15.3 million in salary cap space. Smith played in just two games in 2021 due to a back injury, and his teammates didn't vote him as a defensive captain for the first time in his three years with the team. "I think, obviously, we're going to have to do something there," general manager Brian Gutekunst said. "That (cap) number (about $27.7 million) is pretty high." The alternative to cutting the 29-year-old pass-rusher would be for the Packers to restructure his deal to help get them under the salary cap for the 2022 campaign.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
