2018 Fantasy Football Sleeper - Quincy Enunwa

Nothing went right for the New York Jets in 2017. From the "scam for Sam," which cost them three extra second-round picks because they decided to win in Week 17, to the injury suffered by Quincy Enunwa who was supposed to be their number one receiver.

With Enunwa out for the season, Robby Anderson was able to fill in and finish as the WR16 in fantasy leagues with 137 fantasy points. Anderson is still just a one-trick pony who can go downfield and catch the ball. He does not have the route tree or overall talent of Enunwa, meaning Anderson should slide back into his more comfortable and familiar role in 2018.

The first-round selection of Sam Darnold from USC at the third overall pick bodes well for the future of the team and for whichever receiver takes the number one role. With the off-field actions of Robby Anderson possibly leading to sanctions, Quincy Enunwa has the inside track over the likes of Terrelle Pryor for the job.

2018 Sleeper - Quincy Enunwa

With Robby Anderson returning to his downfield role and 2017 second-leading receiver Jermaine Kearse currently injured, the targets and the need will be there for Enunwa to have a breakthrough season if his neck is truly healthy. With Austin Seferian-Jenkins leaving for Jacksonville, the tight end position will again fall into irrelevance, although with Jenkins finishing at 27th at the position last season with only 51 fantasy points it really wasn’t too relevant last season either.

The Jets are not a team who uses the tight end much, instead opting for a pass-catching running back to get most of the dump-off work. This season, the job of pass catching back was going to be handed to Elijah McGuire as for the reason the Jets refuse to give Bilal Powell any significant work in the offense. McGuire though, fractured his foot the first week of training camp and although the team is saying it is a three to six-week injury, reports from other sources list it as a minimum six to twelve-week injury.

The Jets now will be forced to use Bilal Powell as well as free agent signing Isaiah Crowell for any backfield efficiency. And if there is anything Isaiah Crowell owners know, he is far from efficient. I may or may not be speaking from experiences had in 2017. This means, with the ineffectiveness bound to happen in the running game, the receiving corps gets a big upgrade. Not to mention, Josh McCown is not known to be someone who likes to check down a lot. Instead, he would much rather chuck the ball around the field.

At 6’2 and 225 lbs, Enunwa is a big target for whichever quarterback is behind center for the Jets. With a current ADP of pick 217, be is not even being selected in most drafts unless you are in the deepest of deep leagues, yet he offers far more value than teammate Robby Anderson who is currently going at pick 83, making him a ninth-round pick in most drafts. With this said, the bigger-bodied Enunwa should be the way to go if you want to get a piece of the New York Jets offense in 2018.

Are the Jets going to be a good team to watch? No. Are they going to have some fantasy assets? Yes. The biggest of those assets should be Quincy Enunwa as he will be the WR1 on a team that will be losing A LOT. At 26 years old, he is also a solid pick for those of you playing in dynasty leagues, as he should be able to learn and grow a rapport with Sam Darnold over the coming years and hopefully bring some respectability back to Broadway.
