TARGET: ~135
CURRENT ADP: 168
ANALYSIS: Iglesias put together quite the finish on his 2015, leading to quite a bit of buzz surrounding him as the 2016 season starts to peek out over the horizon.
Iglesias didn’t really see consistent work in the majors until he entered the rotation after the All Star break, and then he went on to strike out over a batter per inning the rest of the way. He had an 11.8% swinging strike rate, the same as Danny Salazar. He’s got great stuff. This was highlighted by a three game stretch where he struck out 33 in 21 innings (going seven strong in each start). Those three games rounded out a streak of seven straight quality starts.
After that stretch, he had two more starts in the regular season where he didn’t do anything special, and hopefully it left enough time where your leaguemates forgot how great Iglesias looked before he was shut down. He ended up logging 124.1 innings in all last year, and he should be good for 180 this year.
Iglesias may very well be that “sleeper” name that ends up rising in ADP from now until the season starts, and yet is still worth your draft pick. The Reds are rebuilding so those wins might be hard to come by, but his counting stats should be quite something out of the later rounds and if you play with quality starts then obviously you’re not sweating those Ws. Don’t overlook Iglesias.
