Agenda

  1. Auf Wiedersehen
  2. Today's Weather and Updates
  3. Tomorrow's Picks

1. Auf Wiedersehen

Brad will be back tomorrow. As far as I'm aware, there are no plans for me to step in again at any point over the remainder of the season. If that holds, it's been fun trying my hand at a somewhat more DFS-oriented feature. I can only hope that my advice served you reasonably well. Much like in the less-important medical field, the first dictum of fantasy analysis is "do no harm."

2. Today's Weather and Updates

Only seven games today, and fortunately none of them appear to be under threat of inclement weather. For tomorrow, the only blemish is in Atlanta, where storms in the afternoon might linger long enough to push back the start of the Phillies-Braves game. It's unlikely to be more than a brief delay.

3. Tomorrow's Picks - Tuesday, August 8

Pitchers to Use

Ariel Miranda has been all over the place this season, thanks largely to his inability to keep the ball in the yard. He's allowed 27 home runs, tied for second-most among all qualified starters. While the Oakland Coliseum is playing more homer-friendly this year than any point in the past decade, it's not a bad place to pitch and the Athletics aren't a scary matchup.

Neither are the Blue Jays, which has been tough to adjust to after they've routinely been a top offense for most of the decade. CC Sabathia is a cautious recommendation. He's struggled against Toronto in two of their three meetings this season, but both of those were in the Bronx. The veteran fired 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball in their only game at the Rogers Centre.

Other TargetsMatt Garza

Pitchers to Exploit

Derek Holland has a 2.04 HR/9, a 6.7 K-BB%, and is facing the Astros. It'll be a shock if he isn't slaughtered.

Luis Perdomo has allowed a .326/.389/.538 line to batters on the road this season. That's basically the equivalent of turning every hitter into Jose Ramirez. Great American Ball Park is unlikely to be kind to him.

Other Targets: Matthew Boyd, Chris Flexen, Austin Pruitt, Adalberto Mejia, Kendall Graveman, Ty Blach, Vance Worley

Homers on the Wire

Joey Gallo homered on Sunday, giving him 30 dingers for the year. Nine of those have come in his last 16 games. He has seven other hits during that time. I will never get tired of the bizarre year he's having.

Other TargetsJosh Bell, Jorge Bonifacio, Randal Grichuk, Nick Castellanos, Matt Chapman, Steve Pearce, Marcus Semien

Steals on the Wire

Jarrod Dyson has already swiped four bags in August, giving him an AL-best 27 on the season. He's also collected multiple hits in three of five games to open the month.

Cameron Maybin held the lead until that recent Dyson binge, despite being out the last few weeks with a knee injury. He's expected to be activated on Monday and should be rostered by any owners with a need for speed.

Other Targets: Rajai Davis, Cesar HernandezOrlando Arcia, Keon Broxton, Ian Happ

Skill Positions

Brad Ziegler appears to be the man in the ninth for the Marlins, at least until Kyle Barraclough returns from the disabled list. In Oakland, Blake Treinen has locked down the last two save opportunities.
