The Cut List - Players on the Chopping Block (Week 7)

This is your weekly list of players to drop. I will do my best to limit this list to injured players and players you might consider holding. If you roster pure handcuffs or backups, obviously you can let them go at any time. The players on this list will, ideally, be guys that aren't clearly droppable, but no longer worth owning.

Below are my Week 7 cuts and drops for fantasy football. Each week from now until the end of the season, I’ll be offering my thoughts on players who don’t deserve to keep a roster spot on your fantasy football teams.

Let's get to it.

Editor's Note: Our incredible team of writers received five total writing awards and 13 award nominations by the Fantasy Sports Writers Association, tops in the industry! Congrats to all the award winners and nominees including Best NFL Series, MLB Series, NBA Writer, PGA Writer and Player Notes writer of the year. Be sure to follow their analysis, rankings and advice all year long, and win big with RotoBaller! Read More!

Players to Consider Dropping or Replacing

Byron Pringle (WR, KC)

As quickly as he arrived, he is gone. With Tyreek Hill back, Byron Pringle played fewer than 60% of the snaps. Even though he was used more than Demarcus Robinson, it was clear that Robinson is the starter alongside Hill. Pringle is just too low on the target hierarchy to matter.

Jaylen Samuels (RB, PIT)

Just one week after I said to not drop him, Jaylen Samuels is a clear drop. The Steelers' offense runs through James Conner, who is a true three down workhorse whether he deserves it or not. Add in the fact that Samuels is out another few weeks with a knee injury and any hope of Samuels securing the job or even a consistent role is out the window.

Chris Thompson (RB, WAS)

Nothing more than a floor flex play to begin with, Chris Thompson was barely used in the easiest game Washington will play all year. Adrian Peterson dominated snaps and touches, while Thompson added injury to insult, leaving the game with a foot issue and not returning. Thompson may miss some time, but even if he doesn't, he's nothing more than a desperation bye week filler on one of the league's worst offenses that apparently wants to revolve things around 82 year old Peterson.

Peyton Barber (RB, TB)

Game script had a lot to do with Peyton Barber and Ronald Jones playing second and third fiddle to Dare Ogunbowale. Barber and Jones combined for just 40% of the snaps. With that being said, Barber hasn't touched the ball more than 10 times in four of his six games. He's failed to reach double digit fantasy points in four games. He's scored touchdowns in three games, yet still managed to produce just one usable week. Barber's fantasy value was tied to volume and the volume is gone.

Raheem Mostert (RB, SF)

With Tevin Coleman looking healthy and spry, the 49ers' backfield is back to a two man show. Coleman and Matt Breida are the only two backs that matter at 55% and 36% respectively. Mostert played just seven snaps. If either of the two starters go down, Mostert will pop back up as a waiver guy, but right now, he's just a timeshare handcuff.

Warning Signals

Damien Williams (RB, KC)

We are two games into Damien Williams' return from injury and he's failed to reach double digit fantasy points in either one. This past Sunday, he touched the ball twice. Williams may have his days ahead, but with the Chiefs' offense not humming as usual and it revolving around the pass, plus the return of Tyreek Hill, none of the Chiefs' backs have much fantasy value. If Williams posts a third consecutive dud while barely touching the ball and playing fewer than 50% of the snaps, you can drop him.

Players You May Be Considering Dropping, But Shouldn't

Diontae Johnson (WR, PIT)

I have to imagine that after the incredibly limited nature of the Steelers' passing game on Sunday night, many fantasy owners are cutting bait on Diontae Johnson. He's by no means a must hold, but some context is needed. Devlin Hodges was a game manager if there ever was one. His job was to not lose the game. He succeeded. With the Steelers on bye and Mason Rudolph poised to return in Week 8, we have every reason to believe things will be back to normal once the Hodges era mercifully ends. Johnson has now out-targeted JuJu Smith-Schuster in three straight games. There is still something here if you can afford to hold through byes.
