The Cut List - Players on the Chopping Block (Week 9)

This is your weekly list of players to drop. I will do my best to limit this list to injured players and players you might consider holding. If you roster pure handcuffs or backups, obviously you can let them go at any time. The players on this list will, ideally, be guys that aren't clearly droppable, but no longer worth owning.

Below are my Week 9 cuts and drops for fantasy football. Each week from now until the end of the season, I’ll be offering my thoughts on players who don’t deserve to keep a roster spot on your fantasy football teams.

Players to Consider Dropping or Replacing

Corey Davis (WR, TEN)

Why do I have to put his name here again? Corey Davis should never be owned. He has now played eight games this season. He scored 20 fantasy points in two of those games. In the other six, he scored 28.5 fantasy points combined. It is never going to happen for Davis. He is a random desperation bye week replacement just like a dozen other receivers that can be regularly found on the waiver wire, where he belongs.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling (WR, GB)

Davante Adams is due back next week, but even in his absence, the Packers are just going wide receiver by committee. No Packers' receiver played more than 67% of the snaps. MVS played 62% and, much like Corey Davis, has two 20 point outings with the rest in single digits. If you are going to own a non Adams Packers' wide receiver, it should be Allen Lazard.

Ty Johnson (RB, DET)

Well...that didn't last long. The Lions spent a sixth round pick on Ty Johnson because...reasons? If they think he's so bad that a guy they literally signed a week ago, Tra Carson, should start over him, why did they bother drafting Johnson in the first place? Either way, Johnson failed to reach a 40% snap share in the first game of the post Kerryon Johnson era. Ty, Carson, J.D. McKissic, and even Paul Perkins got in on the action. Not one of them produced anything remotely resembling useful fantasy numbers. I know you blew all that FAAB on Ty. I did, too. I maintain it was worth the risk. Sometimes risks do not pan out. This is one of those times.

Frank Gore (RB, BUF)

Another game removed from his hamstring injury and Devin Singletary has seized control of this backfield. Singletary played 68% of the snaps against just 29% from Frank Gore. If Singletary goes down again, Gore will re-enter our lives as a floor based flex. For now, with Singletary healthy, it is rightfully his backfield.

Players You May Be Considering Dropping, But Shouldn't

Larry Fitzgerald (WR, ARI)

To be clear, you are probably going to be dropping Larry Fitzgerald soon. However, every week counts and while this week's matchup against the 49ers' elite defense on a short week is a no go for Fitz, in Week 10, the Cardinals play the Bucs' league worst pass defense. You want Fitz for that game. If you want to drop him, just wait one more week, use him against the Bucs, and then drop him.
