NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 2/8/22
We are finally back with a healthy slate after the All-Star break. We will also have a few value spots to exploit, granting us some flexibility in roster construction. I will do my best to guide you through this exciting slate starting at 7 p.m. EST with a few teams in prime matchups.
We will have a few teams on back-to-backs: Carolina, Ottawa and New Jersey. The Canadiens and their league's worst goals against (3.88) will host the Devils, while the Wild will take their league’s third-best goals for (3.75) to the great white north to visit the injury-riddled Jets.
DISCLOSURE: The slate may not be the same at puck drop as it is during the writeup due to COVID-19. Make sure to monitor the news feed and play at your own risk.
NHL DFS Goalies
Tristan Jarry- DK $7.5K || FD $7.8K
Opponent - Boston Bruins
If you want the uber-safe chalky play at goalie, you don't want to read this, but if you want an upside goalie with value then stay here. Vancouver netminder Thatcher Demko -- $8.2K on DraftKings -- will surely garnish the majority of ownership, but his ceiling is capped tremendously by the lack of shot volume from Arizona. That is why we will look at Jarry who will see an average of 10 more shots than Demko. The only issue is that Boston knows how to score and when they click, they click. Nevertheless, Boston will shoot plenty to give Jarry a nice solid floor and most likely get him to the save bonus for $800 less salary.
Others To Consider (Cash/GPP): Raanta(DK $8.5K || FD $8.5K), Demko(DK $8.2K || FD $8.1K), Kahkonen(DK $8K || FD $8.4K), Gillies(DK $7.6K || FD $7K), Vejmelka(DK $7.2K || FD $6.7K)
NHL DFS Centers
Evgeny Kuznetsov-DK $5.7K || FD $8K
Opponent - Columbus Blue Jackets
The Kuzenator is BACK! Kuznetsov has been lighting the league up and now he gets a soft matchup with either opposing goalie, plus he may also get winger Alex Ovechkin --$8.8 on DraftKings -- back if he makes it through protocols. Over Kuznetsov's last five games he is sporting a 2-3-5 line and 17.0 shots. When we backdate it to all of January he has a 2-8-10 line and 32.0 shots over a 12 game span. Prior to January, Kuznetsov had an 8-10-18 line and 43.0 shots. It is only a matter of time until his salary peaks last the $6K mark on DraftKings.
Nico Hischier- DK $3.7K || FD $5.5K
Opponent - Montreal Canadiens
There is no way to say this other than Hischier is an extreme disappointment. The centerman will fill in for teammate Jack Hughes who will be out for this matchup, however, Hischier has zero points in his last five games and 24.0 points over the season. At least he has 6.0 shots and 7.0 blocked shots during his five-game point drought. Luckily, the fifth-year pivot and his low salary has a soft goalie matchup to bounce back with.
Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): McDavid(DK $9.6K || FD $10K), Hartman(DK $6.4K || FD $6.6K), Trocheck(DK $5.3K || FD $5.9K), Miller(DK $5.2K || FD $7.4K), Suzuki(DK $4.6K || FD $5.7K), Carter(DK $4.2K || FD $6.2K), Dauphin(DK $2.5K || FD $4.8K)
NHL DFS Wings
Evander Kane- DK $5.8K || FD $6.1K
Opponent - Vegas Golden Knights
We are here once again with the newly acquired Evander Kane. Since joining the Oilers he has done nothing but thrive. In his three appearances, he has a 2-1-3 line and 9.0 shots. It seems that Kane is one of the main ingredients that Edmonton has been needing to kickstart their organization again. He will not be under $6K in salary much longer and we need to take advantage while we can.
Jesper Bratt- DK $4.6K || FD $6.9K
Opponent - Montreal Canadiens
The jumbled winger somehow continues to produce even with his constant jumping between the top two lines. In his last five matches, he has a 1-4-5 line and 12.0 shots. Bratt has been one of the main sources of production for the Devils and he will need to step up even more with teammate Jack Hughes out. Luckily, playing alongside pivot Nico Hischier who doesn't shoot, Bratt should see more of the puck in a soft matchup.
Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Ovechkin(DK $8.8K || FD $9.9K), Svechnikov(DK $6.4K || FD $7.5K), Fiala(DK $5.9K || FD $6.6K), Toffoli(DK $5.4K || FD $6.4K), Rodrigues(DK $4.2K || FD $6K), Hoffman(DK $4.1K || FD $4.9K), Statsny(DK $2.8K || FD $5K)
NHL DFS Defensemen
Oliver Ekman-Larsson- DK $3.1K || FD $4.5K
Opponent - Arizona Coyotes
Ekman-Larsson is primed for a big spot with teammate Quinn Hughes out. Ekman-Larsson will now be handed the keys to the Lambo with full control of the top power-play. In his past five appearances, he has a 1-1-2 line, 12.0 shots and 8.0 blocked shots. The point totals are not great by any means, but he is at least providing a solid floor and in a favorable goalie matchup as the top defenseman, he could surely show magic.
Tyson Barrie- DK $3.8K || FD $4.6K
Opponent - Vegas Golden Knights
Barrie is back and he is surprisingly quarterbacking the top power-play for the Oilers. Luckily, his salary is very minimal and he did not do awful in his return back with 3.0 shots. He trailed off massively prior to his injury and we will take advantage of any positive form while we can.
Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): DeAngelo(DK $6.5K || FD $6.5K), Carlson(DK $6.3K || FD $6.6K), Chychrun(DK $5.6K || FD $5K), Severson(DK $4.4K || FD $5.7K), Brodin(DK $4.3K || FD $5.8K), Schmidt(DK $4.2K || FD $5.1K)
