Todd Frazier rode a torrid first half into the All Star Break and then fell flat on his face. I don’t think anyone expected him to keep it up all year, 25 first half home runs is ridiculous, but no one could have seen such a disastrous second half coming. The power disappeared, but more troubling was the drop in average.
He hit .226 in July, .233 in August, and .215 in September/October. Somewhere in the middle of the two halves is “true Frazier”. 2016 brings new surroundings for Frazier with the White Sox. The move to Chicago is pretty lateral park-wise, though his runs and RBI potential does get a slight bump up with the lineup around him. If you’re a believer in narratives, Frazier can become a free agent after this season too.
There might be some turbulence in adjusting to his new surroundings, but with the lineup around him the concerns are minimal. Draft him with confidence, but not as your first hitter off the board.
