ANALYSIS: Tyler Lockett is an interesting case, as he came on strong into Week 1 on the heels of a strong preseason. Fantasy owners and experts alike fell in love with what they saw, though expectations were tempered due to usage concerns. Week 1 was pretty unorthodox for the Seahawks, as they gave up 34 points to a below average Rams offense and were unable to get much of a rushing attack going against one of the best front sevens in football. This led to Russell Wilson throwing 41 passes, with Lockett seeing four targets, which was good for fifth on the team (third out of WRs). Lockett converted all four targets into receptions, tallying 34 yards. Lockett was clearly ahead of Super Bowl XLIX hero Chris Matthews for WR3 duties, as Lockett was on the field for nearly 70% of plays.
4 catches for 34 yards, big deal right? Well he also had quite the punt return, taking a booming Johnny Hekker punt 57 yards all the way to the house. Needless to say, if you're in a league that counts return yards, you want Lockett on your team. Even if you don't count return yards, he is drawing comparisons to Devin Hester in his return game ability, so if you get points for return TDs, you're paying attention. In Lockett, you are buying an electric talent with great upside if uninspiring options Jermaine Kearse or Doug Baldwin go down, who can still contribute as a WR3 in an offense that can move. In deeper leagues, taking a chance on Lockett is a great idea.
