The Cut List - Players on the Chopping Block (Week 6)

Plainly and simply, this will be your weekly list of those end-of-roster guys that you can safely let go of, with the occasional unfortunate star player that finds his way here due to injury.

Each week from now until the end of the season, I’ll be offering my thoughts on players who don’t deserve to keep a roster spot on your fantasy football teams. Below are my Week 6 cuts and drops for fantasy football.

Let's get to it.

Players to Consider Dropping or Replacing

Odell Beckham (WR, NYG)

Within minutes of Odell Beckham's ankle twisting in the wrong direction, everyone knew it was over. I really do despise injuries. This is just par for the course for the Giants 2017 season. They just can't do anything right and now they lost their best player for the season. Beckham should be fine for 2018, but the first round pick and consensus top three WR in the league can safely be dropped.

Amari Cooper (WR, OAK)

I will preface this by saying two things: 1) You don't absolutely have to drop him. He is merely here to let you know that it is okay to do so; 2) If you cannot bring yourself to drop him, I completely understand.

Notwithstanding those two statements, you can drop Amari Cooper. We are now through five weeks of the regular season and Cooper ranks as the WR76. Yes, you read that correctly. The consensus second round pick currently sits behind 75 other WRs in fantasy points. Will Fuller has more fantasy points than Cooper. Will Fuller didn't play the first three weeks! Over the past three games, Cooper has posted single digit yardage totals. In half PPR, Cooper has failed to reach double digit fantasy points in his last four games combined. Michael Crabtree is so far ahead of Cooper in terms of trust and utility. Even without Derek Carr, nothing changed - EJ Manuel threw to Crabtree and had no idea Cooper even played football. The Raiders still have their bye and Denver on the schedule. Cooper is not a must hold.

Sammy Watkins (WR, LAR)

Similar to Amari Cooper, we have another very talented player that just isn't catching passes. Sammy Watkins had that fluky Thursday night explosion for 106 yards and two scores. In his other four games, he has a total of eight receptions for 105 scoreless yards, hitting rock bottom this past week by catching none of his four targets. Like Cooper, you don't absolutely have to drop Watkins. I actually have more hope for Watkins rest of season than Cooper. But, if you must cut someone, feel free to let it be Watkins.

Marcus Mariota (QB, TEN)

I do not believe Marcus Mariota was anywhere near playing last week. In all likelihood, he will be held out through the Titans' week 8 bye. The fantasy regular season is 13 weeks long and Mariota's schedule isn't so great that you need to hold onto him. If he doesn't play the next two weeks, he returns to face Baltimore, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, and Houston. Only the Colts are a cupcake matchup. If you can't burn a roster spot on an injured QB for the next three weeks, I completely understand. If he is expected to suit up this week, however, do not drop him.

Charles Clay (TE, BUF)

No TE has really been a must own this year besides the top three (Gronk, Kelce, Ertz), but Clay has been a TE1. After spraining his MCL and possibly other things on Sunday, he is going to miss too much time to keep on your bench. Nick O'Leary is the replacement and would be nothing more than a warm body on your fantasy team.

Terrance West (RB, BAL)

At best, he is in a three way timeshare with Buck Allen and Alex Collins. At worst, he is an injured part time back that may not return to any meaningful role. Terrance West hurt his calf on the Ravens' opening drive on Sunday. He left the game and did not return. The Ravens offense isn't even close to being considered "good." West hasn't been useful since week 2 and hasn't seen double digit touches since week 1.
