ANALYSIS: In the words of Giants’ head coach Tom Coughlin, “he’s got to be the guy”. Tye is the only healthy tight end left on the roster for the New York Giants. Kevin Boss isn’t coming back for a last hurrah, sadly enough. Larry Donnell has a neck injury and is “week-to-week”, and Daniel Fells is gone for the year (and may never play again thanks to his MRSA infection). Coughlin said that Tye is improving, although one would like to see him get more than two receptions for seven yards (and a lost fumble) in a game where the Giants scored 49 points.
Despite that poor showing from Tye, there’s no denying that he has the opportunity to shine for the Giants in this Week 9 contest against a Buccaneers’ defense that gives up yards left and right in the passing game. While Eli Manning may very well prefer to turn to more reliable options in the passing game like Odell Beckham, Rueben Randle, Dwayne Harris and Shane Vereen, Tye is going to be on the field a lot as the only active tight end. If you’re in very deep leagues and need a tight end fill in for Week 9, look at Tye. Larry Donnell will return at some point, but until then Tye is the guy for NY.
