WNBA Daily Fantasy Lineup Picks (8/22/20): WNBA DFS Advice for DraftKings and FanDuel

It took overtime for the Sparks to beat the Dream last night! Atlanta's only won two games, but they've been feisty lately. Also, Glory Johnson finally had the big game I've been waiting for, scoring 23 points in 27 minutes for Atlanta.

In this article, I'll be providing you with some daily fantasy WNBA lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 8/22/20. These lineups picks will range from elite players to mid-priced options and value plays.

Want to talk more about the WNBA? I'm always available on Twitter and always down to discuss women's basketball: @juscarts. (By the way, I'm in "oh no the semester starts Monday" mode, so apologies if today and the next few days of pieces aren't quite as beefy as you're used to!)

WNBA - DFS Guards

DeWanna Bonner (G, Connecticut Sun) – vs New York Liberty (DK: $10,100, FD: $7,800)

Bonner's struggled a little against some of the league's better teams.

The Liberty are not one of the league's better teams.

Bonner's a nightly threat to score 20-plus points and has been grabbing plenty of rebounds as well. I don't think there's a lot of analysis to give y'all here: I'm playing DeWanna Bonner against the Liberty because New York allows the second-most points and second-most rebounds in the league.

Jordin Canada (G, Seattle Storm) – vs Las Vegas Aces (DK: $7,000, FD: $5,500)

Sue Bird is out, which means another big opportunity for Canada to run the show.

With Bird missing last game, Canada scored just one point in 23 minutes, missing all three of her shots. But she had three rebounds and six assists, and earlier in the season before Bird returned she was consistently getting between six and 10 assists with a good number of steals and some solid scoring totals, with 10 or more points in four of the first six games.

I like Canada's salary today. I like her upside without Bird. She won't score a ton of points, but she does enough other things to help her to a strong DFS day.

Briann January (G, Connecticut Sun) – vs New York Liberty (DK: $5,800, FD: $4,400)

First off, if you have the salary room, playing Kennedy Burke is a good move, even if I don't think she reaches the same heights as she did on Thursday. But for this final guard spot, I wanted to target someone with an even cheaper salary.

For that spot, I'm going with January against one of the league's worst defensive teams. January hasn't been very good since debuting this season, but the 11-year veteran is coming off her best game of the year, with 15 points and a couple of assists against Vegas.

January gets a lot of minutes on this team. If you want to take a swing on someone with a chance to be on the court a lot who looks like she turned her shot around last game, she's worth a dart throw.

WNBA - DFS Forwards

Azura Stevens (F, Chicago Sky) – vs Indiana Fever (DK: $9,800 FD: $6,000)

*looks at Stevens's salary on FanDuel*

*cleans glasses*

*looks again*

I don't know how Stevens is still so undervalued on that platform. With Cheyenne Parker out again, Stevens -- who had 25 points and seven rebounds last game, which Parker also missed -- should be a major force for the Sky against a Fever team that has the second-worst defensive rating in the WNBA.

Teira McCowan (F, Indiana Fever) – vs Chicago Sky (DK: $7,400, FD: $6,200)

Chicago allows the fourth-most points in the paint. Almost all of McCowan's shots have been inside of 10 feet -- 44 of her 48 attempts. McCowan is coming off a double-double against the Storm and has scored double-digit points in all but four games this season, with one of those being the season opener when McCowan didn't quite seem in game shape.

McCowan hasn't gone on a rebounding tear yet like she did as a rookie and Chicago does a good job preventing rebounds, so she doesn't have quite the high ceiling we might hope she has, but she's still a strong interior force with a plus matchup.

Ezi Magbegor (F, Seattle Storm) – vs Las Vegas Aces (DK: $6,000, FD: $4,400)

While the matchup itself isn't really a positive for Seattle, Hezi Ezi has played some really good basketball this season. She faltered a little against Indiana, scoring just two points, but before that had four games in a row with eight points, with five or more rebounds in two of those.

Her production has taken a bit of dive with Natasha Howard returning to form, but at there's not a lot of players at or below Ezi's salary that I'd feel comfortable taking a risk on in this slate.
