BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 7% of leagues
ANALYSIS: St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Yairo Munoz was acquired this offseason in a package that sent Stephen Piscotty to the Athletics and seems to be the shortstop of the future for St. Louis. Munoz has been a staple in the Cardinals lineup since being recalled on May 19 and has a .333 batting average and 12 RBI in that time period. He has four extra-base hits (three home runs) and is slugging .519.
A .375 BABIP shows that Munoz has been a bit lucky, but he also only has a 14% soft hit rate and a 20.9% line drive rate. Not known for his speed (1-for-4 on stolen bases this season), Munoz's 55.8% ground ball rate will not help him get hits, but a good 37.2% hard hit rate will keep his average high.
The 23-year-old Munoz was known more for his strong arm when he came over to the St. Louis, but he also rate as a solid hitter with good power. Unfortunately, he does usually hit at the bottom of the order, but he is a strong option as a MI in deeper leagues.
