6 years agoTiger Woods shot a five-under par at the Open Championship to finish in a share of sixth place. However, despite the top-six finish, Woods must feel queasy knowing that he had the Claret Jug directly in his sights. The 14-time Major winner needed a handful of things to break his way on Sunday to have a chance to hoist the title, and luckily for him, everything seemed to work in his favor. Woods played his first nine holes at two-under par, and after implosions from Jordan Spieth, Xander Schauffele and Kevin Kisner, he held a share of the lead making the turn for the back nine. The 42-year-old appeared to be in vintage Tiger form and was doing everything needed to capture his elusive 15th Major. He was avoiding mistakes, playing safe golf and taking advantage of opportunities when they presented themselves. Woods found the fairway bunker on the par-four 10th but was able to make nice, clean work of the hole to save his par. Unfortunately for Woods, the par-four 11th hole wouldn't have the same ease and would ultimately be his undoing. The American drove his ball into the right rough and with a strong wind gusting into his face, he completely lost his second shot to the left, hitting the gallery and eventually leaving Woods with a double-bogey. The implosion on the back nine is going to sting for a while, but the silver lining is that Woods is not just back into contention for regular tournaments, he is once again capable of competing at Majors.--Spencer Aguiar - RotoBaller
