6 years agoNew York Giants tight end Evan Engram (knee) is out in Week 5 against the Panthers, but he did some running and light cutting on a side field during practice this week, marking the first time he was able to do these activities since he sprained his right MCL two weeks ago. He'll miss his second straight game this week and is likely to miss Week 6 on a short week on Thursday against the Eagles. However, it seems reasonable that he'd be able to return in Week 7 against the Falcons on Monday night. “Right now, I feel great,” Engram said. “Recovery is going well. Just trying to be smart with everything so I can get out there as soon as possible.” Rhett Ellison will continue to fill in for Engram, with Scott Simonson getting snaps in two-tight end sets. They combined for four catches on six targets for 36 yards in Week 4. Neither of them are fantasy relevant with Engram out. Engram's owners will have to sit tight for another week or so, but when he returns he'll easily be a top-10 tight end at the weakest position in fantasy.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

3 years agoJacksonville Jaguars tight end Evan Engram caught one of two targets for nine yards and a touchdown during Friday's 24-13 preseason defeat to the Cleveland Browns. On Jacksonville's final drive with the starters on the field, quarterback Trevor Lawrence found Engram on a fourth-down play to give the Jaguars their only touchdown of the contest. The athletic tight end is primed to be a go-to weapon for the second-year quarterback if he can put his drop issues behind him. For fantasy managers that are buying into Jacksonville's offense being much better in 2022, Engram doesn't carry many risks in fantasy football due to his late-round ADP.--Skyler Carlin - RotoBaller

3 years agoJacksonville Jaguars tight end Evan Engram has had a rough start to his first training camp with the team. He has gotten a ton of run with the first-team offense and has flashed his talent after the catch when he's in space as a receiver and a runner. However, he's had consistency issues as a pass-catcher in three of five practices so far. Engram has had some egregious drops (one that led to an interception in the red zone). Dropped passes and inconsistency has been Engram's Achilles' heel in his career to this point, so it's concerning that it's still happening with his new team. The 27-year-old is explosive with the ball in his hands, but can quarterback Trevor Lawrence consistently hook up with him in 2022? Fantasy managers should consider Engram a low-end TE2 until further notice.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

3 years agoJacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Press Taylor envisions tight end Evan Engram creating mismatches to stress opposing defenses in 2022. The former first-round pick by the New York Giants in 2017 signed a one-year, $9 million deal with the Jaguars this offseason. "When we put Evan Engram on the field, who's going to cover him?" Taylor said. "Do you need to bring in a lighter body? Do you put a nickel on him? Do you put a safety on him? Do you put a linebacker on him, which we would ask for if you had to pick? Evan kinda brings that with his speed overall." Engram has always had potential, but the 27-year-old has been held back by injuries and a poor Giants offense. He should see an uptick in targets from second-year QB Trevor Lawrence and has a chance to be a more consistent TE1 for fantasy managers.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

3 years agoFormer New York Giants tight end Evan Engram intends to sign a one-year, fully guaranteed $9 million deal that could go up to $10 million with incentives with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars are going all in on the free-agent market on Monday with plenty of money to spend. They also signed wide receivers Christian Kirk and Zay Jones to give second-year quarterback Trevor Lawrence more weapons in the passing attack. Engram caught 46 of 73 targets for 408 yards and three touchdowns in 15 games for the Giants last year. The 27-year-old was a Pro Bowler in 2020 and is fast and athletic for the position, but he's never really reached his true potential due to injuries and drops. Engram should see plenty of targets in his new home, but fantasy managers shouldn't overpay for him as a TE1.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
