5 years agoIt has been five years since Rory McIlroy was last able to find the winners circle during a major, but that won't stop Vegas as installing the Irishman as an 8/1 favorite to hoist the Claret Jug. At just the age of 16, McIlroy broke onto the scenes with a course record 61 at Royal Portrush, and this year's event being held at the venue has not been lost on the 30-year-old. “In my lifetime, I never thought I’d get to play an Open championship at home in Northern Ireland,” he said recently. “It’s going to be massive. That week has been earmarked for a long time. It’s going to be one of those weeks where I have to enjoy the opportunity of getting to play in front of my hometown, not trying too hard, not putting myself under a lot of pressure. Just to go out and enjoy it, because it might be the only time I get to do it.” McIlroy will get a chance this weekend to accomplish the ultimate if he is able to win in his home country, and we wouldn't bet against him getting the job done. --Spencer Aguiar - RotoBaller
