FanDuel, DraftKings NHL DFS Lineup Picks (10/14/19): Daily Fantasy Hockey Advice

The Monday slate features a large number of afternoon games to help celebrate the Canadian Thanksgiving holiday.

We see four games coming in at a total of 6 goals or higher, including Minnesota visiting Ottawa, Florida visiting New Jersey, Colorado visiting Washington, and Edmonton visiting Chicago.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy hockey lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 10/14/19. The lineup picks will range from some of the elite players to mid-priced options and value plays. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to hit me up on Twitter @Roto_Nate. Let's get to it, shall we?

DFS Forwards to Consider

Aleksander Barkov - C, FLA vs NJ (FD - $7,500, DK - $6,500)

Barkov has struggled to put up points so far this season, only managing three assists over his first five games, and the price could scare you away from him until he can show some offensive production. However, if he scares you away, then he is probably scaring your opponents too, and this is the perfect matchup to exploit the lower-ownership. New Jersey is allowing 4.20 goals per game and has looked like a complete mess in the defensive zone. Their lack of size on the backend could be a problem in a matchup against the powerful Barkov.

Jake Debrusk - W, BOS vs ANA  (FD - $5,200, DK - $4,600)

Despite this game being a battle of the top defensive teams in the league, Debrusk should be a solid value play here considering his role in the Bruins lineup. He plays on the second line with David Krejci, who can have a big game at any time, and his value gets an even bigger bump when he is sent out to play the net-front role on the Bruins daunting first powerplay unit. Despite having only one point this season, Debrusk was robbed of a goal and an assist on overturned goals and has been a much bigger factor than his numbers would suggest.

Also, Consider:

  •  Colorado is undefeated this season, led by Nathan Mackinnon and Mikko Rantanen who have points in every game. With Cale Makar beginning to make a mark on the scoresheet as well, the trio makes for an interesting stack against a Washington team that can be involved in a track meet type game at any time.

DFS Defenders to Consider

Thomas Chabot - D, OTT vs MIN (FD - $5,100, DK - $5,500)

The Minnesota Wild are second in the league, allowing 4.25 goals against per game. They are also averaging over four penalties per game, which makes Chabot an intriguing option due to his playmaking skills on the powerplay. If the Wild continue the trend of taking penalties and allowing tons of goals, I would have to imagine a scenario where Chabot factors into a couple of goals along the way.

Jared Spurgeon - D, MIN vs OTT (FD - $4,800, DK - $5,700)

The Ottawa Senators have the same problem as the Wild, allowing four goals and averaging over ten penalty minutes per game. This game has the potential to see a lot of goal scoring and powerplay opportunities, and Spurgeon is another defenseman who excels on the man-advantage. After struggling out of the gate, Spurgeon tallied three points on Saturday night, settling back into his role as the Wild's best offensive defenseman.

Also, Consider:

  • If you believe that the Washington and Colorado game will be track meet as was mentioned in my analysis of the Colorado stack, John Carlson has ten points in his first six games and is the top fantasy points per game producer on the backend by a wide margin.

DFS Goalie to Consider

Sergei Bobrovsky - G, FLA vs NJ (FD - $8,700, DK - $7,600)

Sergei Bobrovsky showed why he is worth the contract that the Panthers gave out to him this Summer on Friday night when he made numerous ten-bell saves before eventually losing in a shootout. The Devils have been a struggling team this season, and Bobrovsky should have an answer for most of what they throw at him today. The Devils have the talent to turn it around at some point, but Bobrovsky shouldn't be the goalie that it starts against.

Also, Consider:

  • The Boston Bruins and Anaheim Ducks face off in a battle of the two stingiest defenses, with the Bruins having a team GAA of 1.40 and the Ducks having a team GAA of 1.20. Naturally, with these stats, Tuukka Rask and John Gibson are two of the top goalies in the league this season and are solid options in this defense-heavy game.
