FanDuel, DraftKings NHL DFS Lineup Picks (2/22/20): Daily Fantasy Hockey Advice

Saturday features another medium eight-game main slate with San Jose in New York, Carolina in Toronto, and a gong show clash between Florida and Vegas.

Remember, when looking around for plays, an over/under of 6 dictates offense, but an over/under of 5 or sometimes 5.5 tilts towards the goalies. There are several games at 6.5, as that has become the new norm in hockey now.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy hockey lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 2/22/20. The lineup picks will range from some of the elite players to mid-priced options and value plays. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to hit me up on Twitter @ChrisWasselDFS. Let's get to it, shall we?

DFS Forwards to Consider

Auston Matthews - C, TOR vs CAR (FD - $8,800, DK - $8,300)

Matthews is too easy of a pick here and can be stacked with several players from Toronto's top-unit power-play on Saturday night. The center has 31 goals and 47 points in 31 home games while firing 146 shots on net. That is an average of nearly 4.5 per contest which is on a level comparable to Alex Ovechkin. He is one of the best forwards in the league especially in Toronto and it would be hard to fade the forward tonight given the matchup. Carolina is also not rested after playing against the New York Rangers on Friday night.

Artemi Panarin - W, NYR vs SAN (FD - $8,100, DK - $7,300)

The winger gets shots on net to the tune of three shots per contest and has 11 points in his last ten games. He had a goal and assist in Carolina on Friday night and enjoys an even better matchup on Saturday against San Jose. The New York power play could be a solid play again even against the Sharks. Remember, San Jose is bruised, battered, and almost at times uninterested. This could be a higher-scoring game than most expect.

Also, Consider:

  • It may be time to take a look at Max Pacioretty who shoots at Ovechkin's level, is now enjoying the bounce in goals and plays against Florida on Saturday night.
  • Mika Zibanejad rolled up another three points against Carolina and faces an awful San Jose team on Saturday. He is one to find ways to use and stack.

DFS Defenders to Consider

Quinn Hughes - D, VAN vs BOS (FD - $5,300, DK - $4,800)

This is a solid option on Saturday night with some high-priced players in not so good situations. Vancouver plays a Boston team that will give up some goals on the road on occasion (see Calgary the other night). Hughes has 47 points in 59 games and has been excellent on the man advantage for the Canucks. His price is still cheap enough with a solid floor making him an easy target in GPP and cash lineups alike.

Jeff Petry - D, MTL vs OTT (FD - $4,500, DK - $5,200)

Petry has a reasonable floor and has 37 points on the season including nine goals. If he keeps seeing time on the power play, his numbers will go up. He had two shots, two scoring chances, and a block against Washington. Again, Ottawa's penalty kill is not all that great. The Montreal power-play unit is a better one with Petry on it more consistently. Those numbers do not lie. Is it a drastic difference? No. Is it noticeable? Yes. Also, this is Ottawa and these "rivalry games" often hit the over. It is a good idea to get in on a cheaper piece of the action.

  • Simply if Jakob Chychrun will be that softly priced all year on FanDuel, why not keep playing him.
  • Alex Edler is a nice FanDuel play with his low $4,300 price tag. That is way too low for a great floor player.
  • Yes, do not shy away from Torey Krug against a not so good Vancouver penalty kill unit.

DFS Goalie to Consider

Hunter Miska - G, COL vs LAK  (FD - $7,100, DK - $7,800)

The goalie gets the likely start with Pavel Francouz starting the night before against Anaheim. It may be the perfect spot and only time to try Miska. This is a Los Angeles team that allows the most DFS points to opposing goaltenders. The only experience this season for Miska was some mop-up duty against Detroit in November. He posted some solid numbers in the AHL and some ways playing the Kings lately can feel like going up against an AHL team. This is a high-risk play but less so due to price on FanDuel.

  • The other good GPP choice on Saturday night may just be Henrik Lundqvist provided he starts. If he does not, then Frederik Andersen may be worth spending up from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
