Patrick Sandoval Getting The Nod Saturday
4 years agoLos Angeles Angels starting pitcher Patrick Sandoval will make his second start of the season versus the Rangers on Saturday. With Shohei Ohtani unable to pitch, a spot has opened up in the rotation after Sandoval was optioned to their alternate site at the end of July. The left-hander was decent in his 2020 debut, allowing one earned run over four frames while striking out four in the no-decision against the Mariners. Manager Joe Maddon said he’s stretched out to 80-90 pitches, so he should throw at least five innings if he has a smooth outing. The Rangers own the third-highest K-rate versus southpaws this season (28.6%), so Sandoval could be a sneaky streaming option in this matchup.
