Hitter Streamers for 4/6 - Shallow Leagues
Myles Straw (OF, HOU) - 24% rostered
Matchup: @LAA RHP Griffin Canning
Straw is possibly the best option on waivers for fantasy managers looking to pick up a stolen base or two on Tuesday, as he goes up against a team with remarkably poor stolen base preventers in the Angels. The Angels’ presumptive starting catcher Max Stassi ranks 136th of 142 catchers by rSB (DRS-based Stolen Base Runs Above Average) since the start of 2018 (min. 20 innings), and his reserve in Kurt Suzuki is even worse, ranking dead last in the category. Straw should be stealing pretty much every time he gets on base on Tuesday, and fantasy managers should take advantage.
David Peralta (OF, ARI) - 30% rostered
Matchup: @COL RHP German Marquez
In 2020, the league average slash line at Coors Field was a ridiculous .291/.341/.473 compared to a 245/.322/.418 league average slash line overall. Facing the ace of the Rockies pitching staff in German Marquez isn’t ideal, but even Marquez isn’t immune to the effects of his home park and owns a 5.06 ERA at home for his career compared to a 3.51 mark on the road. It doesn’t hurt that Peralta isn’t too much of a liability against breaking pitches (.294 xwOBA against breaking pitches since the start of 2018), making Tuesday’s matchup an attractive one for the 33-year-old.
Brandon Nimmo (OF, NYM) - 25% rostered
Matchup: @PHI RHP Chase Anderson
Nimmo has been a strong fantasy contributor when healthy over the past few years, and he draws an enticing matchup in Philly on Tuesday. Citizens Bank Park is one of the most homer-friendly parks in MLB, and batting against Chase Anderson (7.1% home run rate in 2020, 4.6% over the past three years) doesn’t hurt either. Nimmo has a relatively strong chance of picking up multiple hits and a homer on Tuesday, and he should be on the radar of fantasy managers in need of outfielders.
Raimel Tapia (OF, COL) - 33% rostered
Matchup: vs. ARI RHP Luke Weaver
Tapia is day-to-day as he deals with whiplash right now, but he’s a worthwhile streaming option if he plays on Tuesday. Like David Peralta, Tapia gets the benefit of hitting in Coors Field on Tuesday, plus Tapia doesn’t have to deal with a pitcher as good as Marquez. Tapia also has the benefit of playing against a poor stolen base preventer in Carson Kelly, giving the 27-year-old a solid chance of swiping a base or two. All of that gives Tapia a good chance of being a multi-category contributor on Tuesday and worth a stream as a result.
Hitter Streamers for 4/5 - Deep Leagues
Joey Votto (1B, CIN) - 20% rostered
Matchup: vs. PIT RHP Trevor Cahill
Votto has struggled over the past two seasons relative to his career standards with a .777 OPS, but he’s still a strong hitter under the right circumstances. In 594 plate appearances against right-handed pitchers during that time, Votto owns a solid .818 OPS. Restrict the sample to Votto’s 282 plate appearances against righties in Cincinnati, and his OPS shoots up to .934. Notably, Votto matches up against a righty (and not a particularly good one) in Cincinnati on Tuesday, so fantasy managers should target the former superstar.
Wilson Ramos (C, DET) - 9% rostered
Matchup: vs. MIN LHP J.A. Happ
Ramos underwhelmed in his two seasons with the Mets, but even when he wasn’t producing well overall he generally hit well against southpaws and fly-ball pitchers, posting a .898 OPS against southpaws and a .786 OPS against fly-ball pitchers compared to a .748 OPS overall. On Tuesday, Ramos goes up against a left-handed fly-ball pitcher in J.A. Happ, so (park factors aside) it’s about as matchup friendly as it gets for him. Ramos homered on Monday, and it shouldn’t shock fantasy managers to see back-to-back days with a home run out of Ramos.
Jacob Stallings (C, PIT) - 2% rostered
Matchup: @CIN LHP Wade Miley
Stallings hasn’t been a great hitter since entering the league in 2016 as he’s posted a .701 OPS, but he has been more than capable against left-handers with a .888 OPS against southpaws. That production has come in an admittedly small sample of 106 PA, but the catcher position thins out really quickly, and Stallings also has the benefit of playing in arguably the most homer-happy ballpark in MLB on Tuesday. Stallings is worth a flier in deep leagues as a result.
Jay Bruce (1B/OF, NYY) - 3% rostered
Matchup: vs. BAL RHP Dean Kremer
Jay Bruce -- a left-handed power bat -- gets to hit against a right-handed pitcher at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday. Bruce may no longer be the hitter he was in Cincinnati, but he has posted a solid .527 xSLG against southpaws over the past two seasons, and there may not be a better park in baseball suited to Bruce’s style of play. Dean Kremer is not (nearly) enough to make fantasy managers second guess Bruce on Tuesday, and managers looking for cheap power would do well to consider Bruce as a result.
Pitcher Streamers for 4/5 - Shallow Leagues
Adbert Alzolay (SP, CHC) - 15% rostered
Matchup: vs. MIL RHP J.A. Happ
It was a small sample, but Alzolay introduced a slider and a sinker into his pitch mix last season with great success, posting a 2.95 ERA while striking out one in every three batters he faced. Alzolay is slated to go up against a middling Brewers offense that projects to rank towards the bottom of the league in runs scored per game and posted a worse than average swinging-strike rate against sliders last season. That makes Alzolay worth a stream on Tuesday, and fantasy managers should consider streaming the 26-year-old.
Pitcher Streamers for 4/5 - Deep Leagues
John Gant (SP, STL) - 3% rostered
Matchup: @MIA RHP Sandy Alcantara
Gant has quietly been very effective for the Cardinals over the past three seasons with a combined 3.46 ERA, and he draws a favorable matchup against the Marlins in Miami on Tuesday. He may not be the flashiest pickup, but Gant should be effective against a weak offense in a pitcher’s park, and that’s enough to make him worth streaming in deeper leagues.
