MLB DFS Prop Picks for 5/5 - PrizePicks

jordan montgomery fantasy baseball rankings draft sleepers MLB injury news

Hello everybody and welcome! The 2021 MLB season and alive and well and that means our new friends over at PrizePicks have a TON of great props we can look to take advantage of. PrizePicks is a great DFS props site where you can choose to select plays in terms of fantasy points or single stats. The goal is to build a 2-player, 3-player, 4-player, or 5-player entry and then select whether or not you want to play for the power play or the flex play. On the power play, you will need to be correct on each of your selections to win, and on the flex play, you will have a little more wiggle room for a chance to win some money back.

Our partners at PrizePicks offer some of the best, and easiest to win, MLB DFS games in the industry. There are no large-field tournaments filled with sharks where you have to get lucky just to place. At PrizePicks, you're not playing against other people, you're just playing against the projections, and the guys at PrizePicks have worked hard to give you really attractive opportunities to make some money. With promo code 'BALLER' you can get a 100% match on your deposit up to $100.

PrizePicks has two types of games. The first type of game is known as Fantasy Score, which consists of selecting various players and trying to determine if they will go over or under their projected fantasy points in a game. The second game is known as Single Stat. For MLB, Single Stat consists of pitcher strikeout props in which you determine if the pitcher in question will go over or under their projected strikeout total. You can mix and match players from each type of game in your entry or select all of your plays from the same type of game. Once you have selected your players and props, you can choose the aforementioned flex play or power play option. For today's article, we are going to try and focus on the main board's Single Stat pitchers and explain why a pitcher will or will not go over their projected strikeout total. Let's see what the board offers today!

Single Stat MLBP Totals

Jon Gray over 4.5 strikeouts - Jon Gray has gone over this total in four of his six starts in 2021 and has a solid matchup in this one. The Giants are currently posting the fourth-worst K rate against right-handers over the previous 10 days with a rate of 29.8%. They are also posting just a wRC+ of 82, which has them ranked 11th-worst. The only hesitation on this one would be the fact that it is in Coors, but Gray has been much better at home this season as he has 24 strikeouts across 24 1/3 innings pitched to go along with a 1.85 ERA.

Jordan Montgomery over 4 strikeouts - Montgomery is facing a tough Astros team that is only striking out at a clip of 19.5% vs. left-handers over the previous 10 days, but he should be able to get them for more than four here. Fellow left-hander Yusei Kikuchi just got them for seven in his last start as a reference point. Montgomery has also gone over this total in two of his last three starts and three of five on the season.

Shane Bieber over 9.5 strikeouts - This is a play in favor of the odds. While the Royals have been good against right-handers as noted by their 20.2% K rate over the previous 1o days, Shane Bieber is a whole different animal and needs to be taken over any time his number is in single digits. He has struck out at least 10 in all but one start this season. He also has a 30.8% K rate against current Royals across 123 plate appearances.

Freddy Peralta over 7.5 strikeouts - This is a tad dicey as the number was initially 6.5 in some spots this morning, but he should still be able to get over the hump here. He has 45 strikeouts across 28 innings pitched to begin 2021 and has a solid matchup against the Phillies tonight. The Phillies have been striking out at a rate of 25.4% against right-handed pitchers over the previous 10 days, which ranks eighth-worst in baseball. Pair that with their 62 wRC+ over that same span and Peralta has a shot to have a very solid night all around tonight.
