We have another typical split Wednesday slate this week, and I see opportunities for streaming pitchers and hitters throughout the day. This week’s suggestions include an afternoon Coors Field matchup that could see the ball extra lively due to the warmer daytime temperatures, as well as an opportunity to roll out a hitter that could see some extra opportunities in a twin bill. Roster percentages referenced are from Yahoo! leagues.

Hitter Streamers for 7/21 - Shallow Leagues
Akil Baddoo (OF, DET) - 39% rostered
Matchup: vs. TEX RHP Jordan Lyles
Baddoo headed into Tuesday night’s action wielding a hot bat, hitting .345 (10-for-29) with a triple, two home runs and 10 RBI over his previous seven games. The dynamic rookie has been seeing regular playing time and gets a tantalizing matchup versus Lyles, who’s pitched to a 5.50 ERA, .271 BAA and .369 wOBA on the road. Lyles has had more trouble against right-handed hitters, but Baddoo has been lethal versus righties at home, posting a .337 average, 1.070 OPS, .444 wOBA and .314 ISO in that split.
Ty France (1B/2B/3B, SEA) - 45% rostered
Matchup: @ COL LHP Austin Gomber
France has been on a tear for multiple weeks, as he went into Tuesday’s action with a .359 average and .882 OPS over his previous 15 games, a stretch during which he slugged four extra-base hits and 12 RBI. He gets an interesting opposite-handed matchup Wednesday at Coors Field against southpaw Austin Gomber, who’s been excellent at home but is coming off the injured list for Wednesday’s start and has given up seven home runs (out of nine total) to righty bats this season. Gomber has also been a bit fortunate against righties at home with a modest .224 BABIP generated against him in that split, while France has been very effective against lefties overall. Six of his nine homers on the season have come in opposite-handed matchups, and France owns a .280 average, .891 OPS, .372 wOBA and 141 wRC+ against lefties on the road specifically.
Myles Straw (SS, OF, HOU) - 42% rostered
Matchup: vs. CLE RHP Eli Morgan
Straw has come on nicely at the plate after a slow start to the season, and he headed into Tuesday night’s action with a solid .262 average and impressive .343 OBP. The speedy outfielder offers a well-rounded fantasy arsenal that includes 13 stolen bases, and he makes for a nice shallow league streamer against rookie Eli Morgan, who’s been punished by right-handed hitters for a .324 average and .434 wOBA, along with a massive 3.3 HR/9. Meanwhile, Straw has been at his best in same-handed matchups, posting a .278 average, .358 OBP and .323 wOBA in that split, along with a modest 18.7 percent strikeout rate.
Avisail Garcia (OF, MIL) - 52% rostered
Matchup: vs. KC RHP Brad Keller
Keller has been hit hard by both handedness of hitter this season, and he’ll head into Wednesday’s matchup having yielded a .351 average, 1.005 OPS, .421 wOBA, 1.8 HR/9 and 5.91 xFIP to righty bats on the road. Garcia comes into Wednesday’s matchup having slugged 14 of his 17 homers on the season versus righties and having posted a .328 wOBA and 30.8 percent HR/FB rate against that handedness at home. Once Keller exits, Garcia also will have the benefit of facing a set of Royals relievers that went into Tuesday night’s action with a 7.03 ERA and .350 wOBA versus right-handed hitters in July.
Hitter Streamers for 7/21 - Deeper Leagues
Zach McKinstry (2B/3B/OF, LAD) - 5% rostered
Matchup: vs. SFG RHP Logan Webb
McKinstry makes for a very appealing low-rostered left-handed option to roll out against Webb, who has given up a .313 average, .352 wOBA and robust 27.5 percent line-drive rate to lefty bats on the road. McKinstry has begun translating some of the vast minor-league success he enjoyed at the plate over to the highest level of competition, as he headed into Tuesday night’s action having laced 15 of his 33 hits for extra bases. He also has been excellent against righties at home in particular, posting a .313 average, .419 wOBA, .333 ISO and 37.8 percent hard-contact rate in the split.
Jacob Stallings C, PIT) - 10% rostered
Matchup: @ ARI LHP Madison Bumgarner
Bumgarner still has name value, but there’s no denying he’s had a serious drop-off in performance. The accomplished lefty heads into Wednesday sporting a 5-6 record and 5.35 ERA, including a 5.97 figure at home. He’s frequently been taken to task by right-handed hitters there as well, as evidenced by his .280 BAA, .354 wOBA and 1.4 HR/9 in that split. Stallings went into Tuesday night’s game with a .375 average over his previous seven games, and although he’s had a tough time against lefties this season, he’s still hit four of his eight homers off southpaws and has been partly held back by an unsustainably low .173 BABIP versus that handedness.
Miguel Rojas (SS, MIA) - 12% rostered
Matchup: @ WAS RHP Erick Fedde
Rojas went into Tuesday’s action with a solid .276/.334/.419 line, and although he’s been much better this season against left-handed pitching, he owns a .262 average against righties during his long career. Meanwhile, he faces a very appealing starter in Fedde, who’s given up a .280 average, .343 wOBA and 26.5 percent line-drive rate to righty bats at Nationals Park. Additionally, Rojas happens to be a very good hitter against the sinker and cutter, Fedde’s two most often-thrown pitches – the veteran infielder owns a .376 wOBA against the former and a .337 wOBA against the latter this season.
Guillermo Heredia (OF, ATL) - 2% rostered
Matchup: vs. SDP RHP Chris Paddack (Game 1) / RHP Reiss Knehr (Game 2)
Heredia could well draw the start in both games of Wednesday’s twin bill, which would naturally make him even more valuable of a streamer. The outfielder could be in a very good spot in both contests when it comes to the starting pitcher matchup. Paddack has been tormented by right-handed hitters for a .323 average, .390 wOBA and 2.0 HR/9, while Knehr is inexperienced, having pitched just 3.2 big-league innings coming in. Heredia has been more effective in opposite-handed matchups, but he’s hitting a solid .265 and owns a .320 wOBA versus right-handed pitching at home.
Pitcher Streamers for 7/21 - Shallow Leagues
Eric Lauer (SP, MIL) - 15% rostered
Matchup: vs. KC RHP Brad Keller
Lauer’s pedestrian 3-4 record is somewhat belied by a solid 3.83 ERA. The young veteran also comes into Wednesday’s start on a hot streak, having posted three straight quality starts and having pitched to a 3.06 ERA and tiny 0.6 HR/9 over the 32.1 innings covering his last six starts overall. Lauer is also getting an extra day of rest due to a fingernail issue, and he faces a Royals team that’s been one of the most ineffective in all of baseball against southpaws on the road this season (.283 wOBA, -11.2 wRAA).
Pitcher Streamers for 7/21 - Deeper Leagues
Chad Kuhl (SP, PIT) - 6% rostered
Matchup: @ ARI LHP Madison Bumgarner
Kuhl has quietly put together a strong body of work over his last few starts, pitching to a 3-1 record, 1.98 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 0.7 HR/9 across the 27.1 innings covering his last five trips to the mound. The right-hander has been much more effective at home from a season-long view, but the momentum he heads into Wednesday’s start with and the inconsistent and generally punchless nature of the Diamondbacks offense puts him into consideration in deep formats.
