Perhaps the biggest surprise player of the year so far is Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman. Freeman has been brilliant both rushing and receiving the football since rookie running back Tevin Coleman went down with a rib injury in Week 2 against the New York Giants.
Freeman has been on fire lately, and has rushed for 362 yards and seven touchdowns since becoming the starter. He's been exceptional catching out of the backfield as well, hauling in 17 passes for 177 yards. Freeman would have had a receiving touchdown last week against the Redskins, but it was controversially overturned after review.
The Falcons backs have a favorable division matchup at home against the New Orleans Saints on Thursday night. The Saints run defense has been awful lately, yielding 163 rushing yards and two touchdowns to DeMarco Murray and Ryan Mathews last week. Tevin Coleman could steal around 10 or 12 touches, but Freeman will have a hefty workload regardless.
Thursday night's game figures to be a classic matchup of a high-powered offense versus a low-caliber, struggling defense. All signs point to another terrific fantasy outing for Devonta Freeman. While you shouldn't expect him to continually put up 30+ points every week, it's not far-fetched to think Freeman could explode yet again Thursday night. I'm forecasting another huge week for Freeman. He's a top-tier RB1 and a must-start in all leagues.
