Can You Rely on Drew Brees and Brandin Cooks for the Remainder of the Season?

Many fantasy owners, drafted New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and wide receiver Brandin Cooks in hopes that the duo would put up huge numbers this year.  With Jimmy Graham gone to Seattle, Drew Brees had to have a go-to guy, right?  The logical choice was Brandin Cooks, who looked promising in his rookie season before suffering a season-ending thumb injury.

Through the first four weeks, the duo produced mixed results.  Brees was consistently in double-digit scoring every week, but he wasn't putting up typical Drew Brees numbers.  Add in a Week 3 lost to injury, and Brees owners were started to get worried.  Cooks struggled heavily through the first four games, catching 20 balls for 215 yards and no touchdowns.  Many were left wondering if the duo would ever get on track--then Week 5 happened.

Brees and Cooks finally got it going against the Philadelphia Eagles with Brees throwing for 335 yards and two touchdowns and Cooks catching five passes for 107 yards and a score.  The outing sparked optimism for fantasy owners and reminded them of the potential that this duo has.

Looking forward, I think last week's performance was the start of a trend for these two.  Even with the emergence of Willie Snead, Cooks is still the number one wide receiver in New Orleans and will be heavily targeted for the rest of the season.  Despite the early struggles, Brees was optimistic about the rest of the season for the Saints.  "I don't think we are playing as well offensively as I know we can. I don't think we are playing as well as a team as I know we can. So I think it's just finding our identity, finding our mojo and get this thing rolling," Brees said.

The duo looks to build off of last week's offensive production Thursday night against the Atlanta Falcons.
