Welcome to the Monday, August 12th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.
Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.
In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on August 12th. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings
- Jonathan Villar quietly produces. .271 w/15HR & 26SB.
- Maybe Felipe Vázquez should have been traded. He only has two SV opportunities since June 23rd. TWO?!
- Roberto Osuna w/blown save(five) vs Orioles. Wow. Pity.
- Hyun-Jin Ryu got the convincing W, but who locked him in the lineup while he was on IL? Thanks. Couldn’t wait til Monday, could you?
- Chris Owings at 2B?! Meh.
- Bo Bichette, you got caught again? I don’t care. Go faster. Try again. Bases. We want bases. Steal those suckers.
- No day is complete without a Ronald Acuna HR or SB. Today, he flexes the guns. 33HR.
- Return from the dead. Ender Inciarte brings his combo meal to the playground (5HR/7SB).
- Luke Jackson gets the SV(18), not Mark Melancon or Shane Greene
- Mike Foltynewicz w/tainted W. 6IP, 4ER, 7K. Dodgers next. I’ll pass.
- Eugenio Suarez w/three-straight games w/moonshot (four in last five games). 33HR, almost there.
- No punishment from Aristides Aquino. Rawlings gets a momentary reprieve.
- Kris Bryant’s 23 long balls are nothing near his 39 in 2016. He has a chance of reaching his 2017 mark of 29. Sad that it is questionable in the year of ‘Flight Of The Cowhide’.
- Pedro Strop gets 10th SV. Craig Kimbrel should be back soon.
- Jorge Soler is an angel in blue. Nope, not Cubbie-blue. Royal-blue w/35 taters…and counting. Breakout continues!
- 2020 draft: a guy w/upside that will still be discounted. Hunter Dozier. 22HR. Park isn’t favorable, but AL Central definitely helps.
- Nearly as much help w/power as speed. Whit Merrifield is an odd bird this year. We still like the chances for 20/20.
- Victor Robles w/15HR/17SB. That’s Whit Merrifield-like. No, not the AVG(.237), just the power/speed. We’re picking our battles.
- Jacob deGrom builds hopes and dreams. Edwin Diaz crushes them (1IP, 2ER, 2K).
- Jose Leclerc gets the SV(eight). Whew.
- Mike Minor stuffs Brewers in a box. 8IP, 0ER, 1BB, 11K.
- Preseason speculation. Lorenzo Cain will match which of his 10HR/30SB/.308AVG from 2018? Wrong! The correct answer is HR(eight).
- Taylor Rogers has 18SV on 2019 resume…oh, and a butt-whoopin. 0.1IP, 4ER.
- Wins & Saves are worth more money. Brad Hand trying to build his case. Blows save to boost Win total(5).
- Don’t stop appreciating Carlos Santana. 25HR, 70RBI, .282AVG.
- Even Chris Bassitt taking advantage of ChiSox. You should be ashamed.
- Matt Olson w/9.5%Brls/PA. 23 taters too.
- Paul Goldschmidt steals first base of 2019. Now the train is moving. It won’t go very far. That’s why you have a combo meal to satisfy your hunger pangs (26HR).
- 26 games without a homer. That is a drought. Josh Bell tries to cool you off w/two monster turbine swings(29).
- Tommy Edman also a cheap source of steals(seven). Wish OBP(.294) was better.
- To think, some were giving up on German Marquez. 11 wins. Oh, I’m not saying you should have paid the price you did.
- Ryan Yarbrough destroys the competition(8.2IP, 0ER, 8K). Dominance! (Get outta my ear! Nobody cares that it was the Mariners)
- Cody Bellinger is good at trailing people. Keeping them close. 38th BOOM-SHAKA-LAKA!
- Even Justin Turner (19) will surpass his HR totals last couple years.
- Mike Leake(like a sieve). 5IP, 8ER. I hope the 27% owned didn’t actually start him.
- Can the Phillies make a lineup and stick with it. Are we picking out of a hat before each game?
- Have a great Monday. Bring attitude from weekend directly into the week. You control your happiness.
- No Fear, Just Fantasy.
