It's a packed card on Wednesday, as all 30 teams are set to take their respective diamonds. I've honed in on two games specifically, one of which consists of the struggling New York Yankees.
It's certainly unclear if and when they'll break out of their ongoing slump, but one thing has been clear of late. They can't score, favoring opposing pitchers, while they continue to give up runs as well. Baseball is the streakiest of sports so it's wise to follow the trends until we have reason not to.
In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy baseball MLB lineup picks for DraftKings on 5/4/16. The DFS lineup picks will range from high-priced to low-priced options and identify options who will out-perform their expectations, including sleepers and value plays on DraftKings.
DFS Lineup Stacks to Target on DraftKings
Baltimore Orioles - The Orioles are the most recent fortunate team to face the New York Yankees. C.C. Sabathia takes the mound for the Bombers; a familiar foe for several Orioles hitters. In 61 AB versus Sabathia, Adam Jones is batting .311 with nine total extra base hits, consisting of four homers and 14 ribbies. Manny Machado and Nolan Reimold are my other favorites here, as it's suddenly become a blessing to face a team that was once feared.
Detroit Tigers - The Tigers visit the Cleveland Indians and square off against Corey Kluber. Detroit has also had plenty of success against Kluber, specifically Miguel Cabrera who has haunted the Indians righty in his career. Miggy has tallied five home runs and 10 ribbies, batting .500 in 38 AB against Kluber. Take a look at Victor Martinez, JD Martinez, and Ian Kinsler, as they've all faired well against Kluber in the past.
Also consider the Houston Astros versus Phil Hughes
DFS Starting Pitchers to Consider on DraftKings
Steven Matz (vs ATL, $9,200) - Despite Tuesday night's 3-0 loss to the Atlanta Braves, you still have to like Matz's matchup on Wednesday. The Braves have scored the second fewest runs in the league, while Matz has been nearly untouchable in his last three starts. Matz has surrendered only two runs over that span, both coming in the same game. Also helps that the game will be played at the pitcher-friendly ballpark of Citi Field.
Mike Fiers (vs MIN, $8,300) - No Minnesota Twins currently on the roster have hit a home run against Mike Fiers. Fiers faired well against the Twins in 2015, posting a 2.08 ERA, allowing only four runs in 17.1 innings over three starts. Also, the Twins have struggled to score runs early in 2016; 91 total, sixth fewest in the league.
Also consider Tyler Wilson ($4,600) against the New York Yankees - He provides salary relief to stock up on a ton of big bats.
DFS Infielders to Consider on DraftKings
Catcher (C)
Yan Gomes (vs DET, $3,500) - Gomes will square off against Anibal Sanchez on Wednesday. Luckily for Gomes, he's gone 6 for 11 against Sanchez, with two long balls and seven ribbies.
Stephen Vogt (vs SEA, $2,900) - One of the few Athletics with success against Felix Hernandez; .458, HR, 2 RBI in 28 AB. He also provides plenty of salary relief for the names below.
First Base (1B)
Miguel Cabrera (at CLE, $4,000) - As stated above, Cabrera has owned Corey Kluber in his career (stats versus Kluber in Stacks section). Use, use, use, in all formats.
Second Base (2B)
Ian Kinsler (at CLE, $4,200) - Kinsler homered on Tuesday night, snapping out of an 0-9 mini slump. His average sits at an impressive .313, while he is a home run and steals threat every night.
Shortstop (SS)
Carlos Correa (vs MIN, $4,600) - Correa has yet to fully break out in his second season in the big leagues, but he is still reaching base at a frequent rate, as he's walked 17 times (fifth in the league) to compliment his 23 hits. The Houston Astros as a whole have started unexpectedly slow. Once they begin clicking, so will Correa. It could very well happen against the Minnesota Twins.
Third Base (3B)
Manny Machado (vs NYY, $4,500) - Machado is 9-30 with three doubles, a homer, and seven ribbies against CC Sabathia, and is the first piece to a Baltimore stack Wednesday night.
DFS Outfielders to Consider on DraftKings
Adam Jones (vs NYY, $4,000) - It's been a slow start to the season for Jones. Good news for him, he's posterized CC Sabathia throughout his career. In 61 at-bats, Jones is batting .311 with nine total extra base hits (four home runs) and 14 RBI against the Yankees south paw.
Nolan Reimold (vs NYY, $3,100) - Reimold has had a productive start to the season and is a very affordable part of an Orioles stack. Reimold is batting .343 on the season, while his average is .375 against Sabathia. He's also gone deep twice, hit two doubles, one triple, and drove in five runs.
Matt Joyce (vs CHI, $2,800) - Joyce could get the rare start Wednesday night against Jon Lester and the Chicago Cubs. Joyce has gone yard twice against Lester and frees up a ton of cap space for lineups. Keep an eye on if he makes the cut.
Also consider Jose Bautista and JD Martinez
