MLB DFS Core Plays- Showdown Edition
Captain
- Eduardo Rodriguez ($16,200 DK) - While E-Rod is more of a riskier play based on the way he has pitched this season, he actually performed well against the Yankees at the end of June which puts him into consideration if he can pitch like he did that game. On the season. Rodriguez is 1-0 against the Yankees with 15 strikeouts in just 11.1 innings pitched while allowing five runs. There is upside to rostering E-Rod especially if he is on his game as the Yankees lineup features six batters that have a strikeout rate that is greater than 21% and he will face a heavily right-handed lineup which he has held that handedness to just a .167 ISO against him this year.
- J.D. Martinez ($14,100 DK) - One of the safer plays that should be considered in all-formats would be J.D. Martinez. Martinez is hitting .287 and has a .185 ISO against left-handed pitching this season and righty batters have gotten to Montgomery as they have averaged a collective .267 against him this year with nine home runs. Loading up on Boston righties would be the preferred way to go in tournament builds and one of the first ones to consider would be Martinez.
- Aaron Judge ($14,700 DK) - Aaron Judge will be a top option on this slate as he will face Eduardo Rodriguez. Judge has been averaging .323 against lefty pitchers this year and leads all Yankees with eight home runs against this handedness. The one caveat is that Judge has not fared well when facing Rodriguez as he only has four hits in over 25 at-bats so just know there is some risk with Judge in this matchup.
Additional Captain Plays: Xander Bogaerts (BOS), Gary Sanchez (NYY), DJ LeMahieu (NYY), Kike Hernandez (BOS)

Value Picks
- Hunter Renfroe ($6,200 DK) - Renfroe has been mashing lefty pitchers all season long and for his price point in the low 6k range, Renfroe stands out as a major value. He is hitting .307 against lefties this year and is tied for the most home runs on the Red Sox against this handedness with five. Renfroe has an ISO of .277 against lefties and looks like he profiles well against the different pitch types Montgomery throws.
- Bobby Dalbec ($4,000 DK) - If you're looking for a very cheap play with upside, look no further than Dalbec. He has a .307 ISO against lefties this season and is slashing .267 against this handedness while also being tied for the team lead with five home runs against lefty pitchers. Dalbec has the hardest hit percentage against lefties on this Red Sox team with a 47.7% and if he gets a pitch he likes, he could really crush his value at just 4k.
- Gleyber Torres ($5,600) - Torres has been a little bit of a disappointment this year as he is only hitting .240 on the year with three home runs. Right before the all-star break, Torres was beginning to show signs of life as he recorded a hit in four out of his last five games played and it helps as he has three home runs in 19 at-bats against Rodriguez.
