Back to the normal flow of things for the NHL and have a seven-game slate tonight, which should provide enough options for both cash games and GPPS.
Vegas lines are big when it comes to picking games to target, and that's a good place to start for goalies. When it comes to skaters, goal totals is another main place to start. Usually, 5.5 goals are average, so targets game at six, and can look for goalies in games with a total at five.
In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy hockey lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 1/3/19. The lineup picks will range from some of the elite players to mid-priced options and value plays. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to hit me up on Twitter @DFS_Tom. Let's get to it, shall we?

DFS Forwards to Consider
Patrick Kane - W, CHI @ NYI (FD - $8,400, DK - $7,700)
The Blackhawks might not be the best team in the league, but I always have a bit of interest in Kane due to his generally consistent production and upside. He is averaging four shots per game and comes in with 50 points in 41 games this season. Kane is still up on the first power-play unit, so we are getting good goal equity on a night in and night out basis. There are some big name stars on the slate, which could mean he goes a bit overlooked due to the higher ceiling from the other players. This puts him in a good spot to be a solid one-off in tournaments due to his personal ability to reach value, but not reliant on a stack scoring goals.
Brayden Schenn - C, STL vs WAS (FD - $5,500, DK - $5,000)
Schenn hasn't been personally great this season but has a favorable matchup to get the new year started on the right foot, along with being cheap across the industry. He is up against the Capitals who come in with a 59 Corsi Against, which is fifth worst in the league, giving the Blues a nice chance to rack up some shots. He is up on the first forward line and the first power-play unit, which gets you some nice exposure to Tarasenko and his scoring ability.
DFS Defenders to Consider
Alexander Edler - D, VAN @ MON (FD - $4,700, DK - $5,300)
If Edler is going to be under $5K on FanDuel you should be rostering him every single night no questions asked. Edler has been back from his injury for several weeks now and yet his price still hasn't been adjusted fully on FanDuel. He has five points in his last three games (including last night), along with eight shots, and seven blocked shots in that span. Really trying to be as clear as possible with this, play Edler on FanDuel tomorrow in any format you want.
Aaron Ekblad - D, FLA @ BUF (FD - $4,300, DK - $3,900)
Love the savings on Ekblad and should be a solid GPP option tonight, who you want to stack up with the Panthers second power-play. They are on the road tonight versus the Sabres and comes in at +100 and in a game with an over-under set at six, which means we are in for a bit of scoring. Ekblad finally broke his nine-game pointless streak the other night, which is hopefully, an encouraging sign heading into the new year.
DFS Goalies to Consider
Carey Price - G, MON vs VAN (FD - $8,500, DK - $7,600)
Price is set to return to the crease tonight after missing a bit of time, as he was on IR. He comes in as a -175 home favorite against the Canucks who are on the second night of a back to back, which should make Price a popular cash game option tonight. He is considerably cheaper on DraftKings tonight, so look to have a bit of exposure to him over there but doesn't have an immense amount of upside since the Canucks don't generate a ton of shots.
