Thursday features a three-game main slate with Montreal in Buffalo, Nashville in New Jersey, and a sludge matchup between Los Angeles and Arizona.
Remember, when looking around for plays, an over/under of 6 dictates offense, but an over/under of 5 or sometimes 5.5 tilts towards the goalies. There are several games at 6.5, as that has become the new norm in hockey now.
In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy hockey lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 1/30/20. The lineup picks will range from some of the elite players to mid-priced options and value plays. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to hit me up on Twitter @ChrisWasselDFS. Let's get to it, shall we?

Jack Eichel - C, BUF vs MTL (FD - $9,000, DK - $8,500)
Eichel scored against Ottawa with three shots on net (missed several good chances). Montreal has a sub 78% penalty kill on the road and allows 3.14 goals per game. This could be a moderate risk play because Eichel's price is so far above the rest of the slate. However, he averages 4+ shots a game, 3+ scoring chances, and around a point a game career against the Canadiens.
Filip Forsberg - W, NSH vs NJ (FD - $7,600, DK - $6,700)
The winger gets shots on net to the tune of over three per contest. New Jersey can always be an adventure defensively and Forsberg has three assists in his last two games and has gone without a goal in his previous four. Forsberg scored against New Jersey in his previous meeting with four shots on net and four scoring chances as well. He is a difficult and shifty winger for New Jersey to contain.
Also, Consider:
- Anze Kopitar and Nico Hischier are solid plays on Thursday night.
- Taylor Hall becomes an excellent option on Thursday but does watch for the possible return of Brendan Gallagher from Montreal.
DFS Defenders to Consider
Roman Josi - D, NSH vs NJ (FD - $6,600, DK - $8,100)
This is a FanDuel only type of play unless one wants to spend $8,100 on DraftKings. Will Josi get 20 DraftKings points to justify that investment? It's possible with bonuses but a lot to commit. So, a low-risk FanDuel play and borderline moderate risk on DraftKings is the basic assessment. If he fits into your lineups then one rolls with it. He has 14 goals on the season yet none in the last ten games despite 35 shots. With Josi averaging nearly an assist a game and two blocks a contest, maybe it is worth a shot after all.
PK Subban - D, NJ vs NSH (FD - $4,000, DK - $4,800)
Subban has seen his floor improve over the past ten games. He suddenly has 35 shots on net in that span and three goals with several posts hit. The increased shot volume is nice but now he is averaging nearly 1.5 blocks a game too. That combined floor of around 5 shots and blocked shots per night is an improvement. If Subban is healthy tonight, then he becomes a solid, value play against his former team. If not, consider Jakob Chychrun at an even cheaper price against Los Angeles.
- Simply Joakim Ryan for Los Angeles is a low-priced wild card playing top minutes possibly due to Drew Doughty injury concerns.
- Ben Chiarot is getting top minutes with a good floor.
DFS Goalie to Consider
MacKenzie Blackwood - G, NJ vs NSH (FD - $7,400, DK - $7,000)
The idea is different on a shorter slate with going for maximum points. New Jersey tends to give up a ton of shots (38 against Ottawa). Yes, Nashville played last night but New Jersey gives up over 12 high danger chances per 60 and 35 shots per 60 over the past ten contests. Blackwood has started most of those games and he does have a better matchup than expected tonight. His workload is being managed which is why he is starting tonight and not on Saturday (more than likely).
- The other good GPP choice on Thursday night maybe whoever starts for the Buffalo Sabres. Montreal averages nearly 35 shots per game which leads the NHL.
