FanDuel, DraftKings NHL DFS Lineup Picks (1/8/19): Daily Fantasy Hockey

Back to the normal flow of things for the NHL and have an 11-game slate tonight, which should provide enough options for both cash games and GPPS.

Vegas lines are big when it comes to picking games to target, and that's a good place to start for goalies. When it comes to skaters, goal totals is another main place to start. Usually, 5.5 goals are average, so targets game at six, and can look for goalies in games with a total at five.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy hockey lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 1/8/19. The lineup picks will range from some of the elite players to mid-priced options and value plays. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to hit me up on Twitter @DFS_Tom. Let's get to it, shall we?

DFS Forwards to Consider

Phillip Danault - C, MON @ DET (FD - $5,700, DK - $4,800)

Danault is a player I don't love to roster, but the price is solid on him tonight along with having a very favorable matchup. The reason I'm a huge fan of him is for the fact he is up on the first forward line but isn't seeing anytime on either of the power-play units. So you are looking for him to reach fantasy value in what is somewhat limited ice time. But with that said, the matchup is amazing tonight since he is up against the Red Wings who are giving up 12 High Danger Scoring Chances against opponents per game. Love the potential value on a point per dollar basis today.

Nikita Kucherov - W, TB vs CLS (FD - $9,300, DK - $7,900)

Kucherov didn't score a point in his last game, which is actually very shocking since he had a 12-game point streak going on. Tonight, we have him back at home against the Blue Jackets in a game where the over-under is set at 6.5, which is high. So yes, he will 100% get back in the point column tonight and extend his league lead of points. I will go as far to say he is as close as you can get to a must play, so load him in any lineup you can afford him tonight.

DFS Defenders to Consider

Darnell Nurse - D, EDM @ SJ (FD - $4,400, DK - $5,000)

Nurse and the Oilers are on the road on San Jose tonight where the over-under is set at 6.5, so we are expecting plenty of scoring here. The real value with Nurse comes from the fact he is up on the first power-play unit with McDavid, which gives you massive upside. If you are looking for a one-off player in tournaments, Nurse could be the guy, since he isn't expensive and has access to a player, who has multi-point upside.

Josh Morrissey - D, WPG vs COL (FD - $4,400, DK - $5,200)

Morrissey is now on the first power-play unit for the Jets since Dustin Byfuglien is still out with an injury, so he makes a very valuable DFS option since he gets you exposure to the explosive offense. His price is great across the industry considering the fact the Jets come in as -165 home favorites against the Avalanche in a game where the over-under is set at six. He should be fine for any format, but if using him in GPPs, should be used in a stack.

DFS Goalies to Consider

Braden Holtby - G, WAS vs PHI (FD - $8,700, DK - $8,400)

Holtby and the Capitals are at home and come in as -200 favorites against the Flyers, who are on the second night of a back to back. He should make a viable cash game option as he normally does, but we should be expecting the normal level of production from him. That level is giving up a few goals, seeing just shy of 30 saves, but in a good spot to come away with the win due to the offense in front of him.
