FanDuel, DraftKings NHL DFS Lineup Picks (10/8/19): Daily Fantasy Hockey

Tuesday features eight games in all with a spotlight on games like Winnipeg and Pittsburgh, Edmonton and New York, plus even Calgary and Los Angeles.

Remember, when looking around for plays, an over/under of 6 dictates offense, but an over/under of 5 or sometimes 5.5 tilts towards the goalies. There are several games at 6.5, as that has become the new norm in October now.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy hockey lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 10/8/19. The lineup picks will range from some of the elite players to mid-priced options and value plays. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to hit me up on Twitter @ChrisWasselDFS. Let's get to it, shall we?

DFS Forwards to Consider

Connor McDavid - C, EDM vs NYI (FD - $9,100, DK - $8,000)

McDavid faces an Islanders team with Semyon Varlamov in the net. Varlamov can be inconsistent, while the Edmonton center has been ridiculously consistent despite uncertainty in his early-season production. So far, the pivot has five points -- including a four-point outburst against the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday. The center only has a few shots on goal but is generating scoring chances at a rate between 45-50 per 60.

Mark Stone - W, VGK vs BOS  (FD - $7,500, DK - $6,800)

The winger soldiered on and piled up four points in his first two games which included two assists on Friday via four more scoring chances. This will be the line that avoids the Patrice Bergeron trio on Tuesday night. Line matchups are essential especially early in the year. Boston's middle-six allows chances at a rate of 15-20% higher than its top line and defensive pairing.

Also Consider:

  • Sean Monahan and even Dylan Larkin could be viable plays on Tuesday night.
  • Johnny Gaudreau and Filip Forsberg are also in plus-matchup situations on this medium slate.

DFS Defenders to Consider

Ryan Ellis - D, NSH vs SJS (FD - $5,000, DK - $5,300)

Ellis is going to be more relied upon on the power-play and at even-strength this season for Nashville. He played over 26 minutes in game number two over the weekend. Those are numbers that will be seen more often than not. Overall, the defenseman has seven shots on net on 12 attempts and six blocked shots in just two contests. The point production will elevate but a blueliner than can generate 4-5 scoring chances a game that is mid-priced will not last long.

Oskar Klefbom - D, EDM vs NYI (FD - $5,100, DK - $6,100)

Klefbom functions as a reasonable play that is more profitable on FanDuel because of the chances created by other players (McDavid and Leon Draisaitl via the first unit power play). That is the key for the defenseman. He blocks a few shots a game and unleashes his above-average shot a couple of opportunities a night. It is that balance of getting a player who averages 3-4 shots and 3-4 blocks per night which makes the defenseman an appealing play.

Also Consider:

  • Kris Letang and John Carlson will be highly sought after upper-tier players on Tuesday night in prime matchup scenarios as well.
  • Mattias Ekholm and Jaccob Slavin are sneaky secondary plays on Tuesday night that will not break your budget (both under $5,000).

DFS Goalie to Consider

Jimmy Howard - G, DET vs ANA (FD - $7,200, DK - $7,900)

Howard delivered the best performance in his season opener against the Nashville Predators. The Detroit Red Wings goalie saw a bevy of high-danger opportunities and stopped all but three shots. Overall, he stopped 39 of 42 shots in the win and could face 30+ shots again on Tuesday. His GPP viability is high and could be a bit of a slate breaker on Tuesday -- especially on FanDuel.

Also Consider:

  • The other good GPP choice on Tuesday is higher-risk but that would be Sergei Bobrovsky who is priced a bit better across the platforms than expected.
