Hitter Streamers for 6/17 - Shallow Leagues
Jonathan Villar (2B/3B/OF, NYM) - 48% rostered
Matchup: vs. RHP Kyle Hendricks
Most left Villar for dead, assuming he would only be a bench bat without regular playing time. However, due to struggles and a plethora of injuries, Villar has emerged. Besides being white-hot at the dish by going 9-for-30 with a pair of steals over his last two weeks, Villar is driving the Mets offense. He is firmly planted as the leadoff hitter, and his barrel rate has jumped over the league average.
Miguel Andujar (3B/OF, NYY) - 35% rostered
Matchup: @ TBD
Andujar's roster% has soared over 20 points to place him in the shallow league availability, instead of the deep leagues like last week. The main focus for streaming Andujar is the power potential. He hits the ball at nearly a career-high hard-hit rate and barreling the ball 8% of the time. A glance at his expected stats suggests the .264 batting average could be even higher because the xBA is .285. On top of all that, the Blue Jays have not officially announced an SP, but the options look fairly bleak.
Joc Pederson (1B/OF, CHC) - 37% rostered
Matchup: @ RHP Marcus Stroman
Pederson is always a noteworthy player when an RHP is on the mound. He is well known for being a platoon bat that rakes against RHP. This season is really no different-.490 SLG%, .804 OPS. The downtick on Pederson comes from his boom-or-bust style. Behind the prolific power, the batting average is lacking. However, when he connects, then great things happen, as shown by his .439 xwOBAcon.
Eric Haase (C/OF, DET) - 35% rostered
Matchup: @ RHP Shohei Ohtani
Speaking of all-or-nothing approaches, Eric Haase makes for an interesting streamer, at catcher as well. The matchup against Ohtani is less than ideal, but Haase is an extra-base machine. Additionally, the catcher position is a total wasteland of talent at times. Back to Haase, he is touting a robust .320 ISO And .885 OPS. Unless you've got a proven catcher, Hasse should be worth your consideration and even roster spot.
Hitter Streamers for 6/17 - Deeper Leagues
Cesar Hernandez (2B, CLE) - 17% rostered
Matchup: vs. RHP Jorge Lopez
Hernandez is bringing the lumber this year. His barrel rate more than doubled from 2020 and sat at a healthy 9.5%. By increasing his launch angle and driving more balls into the outfield, Hernandez already has ten HRs. The batting average is a shade above .200, which is a little unusual for him because his career BA is .273. Perhaps he is selling out for power? Either way, the OBP leagues need to scoop him up today because the walk rate is still over 10%.
Bobby Bradley (1B, CLE) - 16% rostered
Matchup: vs. RHP Jorge Lopez
Another Cleveland bat that has been eating his spinach. Bradley has wasted no time and, over the last week, has mashed a pair of HRs while raking up seven RBI. Driven by a 44% hard-hit rate and crazy-high barrel rate(22%), there isn't much doubt that he can go deep again today. Keep in mind the matchup against Jorge Lopez, who has already given up 10 HRs and carries a 5.64 ERA.
Aristides Aquino (OF, CIN) - 8% rostered
Matchup: @ RHP Joe Musgrove
Aquino is nicknamed The Punisher for a reason because he can obliterate baseballs. He has wasted no time living up to his namesake by barreling four pitched in only 13 batted balls. For all the math people, that makes for a 30% barrel rate. While this is not sustainable, it should indicate why we are rostering him. However, we can't past his very challenging matchup against Musgrove or the over 30% K-rate. So proceed with caution but expect power if he connects.
Pitcher Streamers for 6/17 - Shallow Leagues
Matt Manning (SP, DET) - 16% rostered
Matchup: @ LAA Shohei Ohtani
Are we playing with fire today? You betcha! Manning is making his MLB debut this evening against the Angels, who showcase a 115 wRC+ vs. RHP. Now, I am not as worried about his 8.07 ERA at Triple-A this season. But, yes, it is worrisome because there is quite a massive jump in talent level when facing big leaguers like Anthony Rendon and Jared Walsh. However, the former ninth overall draft pick in 2016 also showcases high strikeout potential, as seen by his 36 MiLB Ks in 32.1 IP. So, again, this is a little bit of a wild card play because we don't know what to expect. However, if Manning comes out and shuts down the Angels, then you might have a huge season-long asset moving forward.
