Fantasy Football Dynasty Watch: Quarterbacks
Chase Brice, Appalachian State (25-36, 364 yards, 6 TD, INT)
Brice put up these numbers in a losing battle with the Mountaineers missing a two-point conversion to tie with 34 seconds left. They attempted an onside kick...which North Carolina returned for a touchdown. Brice led his team down the field again in those 34 seconds before missing another two-point try with eight seconds left. When the dust settled, these two teams combined for 124 points in regulation with the Mountaineers scoring 40 by themselves in the fourth quarter.
Brice, a transfer from Duke and now in his fifth year (third as a starter), is on some NFL radars. At 6'3", he has the size that NFL GM's covet with a little bit of speed as well. Brice threw 27 touchdowns to 11 picks last year in his first year in Boone. This year is off to a hell of a start!
Honorable mention: Will Rogers, Mississippi State; John Rhys Plumlee, Central Florida
Fantasy Football Dynasty Watch: Running Backs
Frank Gore Jr., Southern Mississippi (32 carries, 178 yards, 2 TD)
This name should sound familiar. His father is an NFL Hall-of-Famer. Southern Miss was such a mess last year that they even had Gore play some quarterback (successfully, I might add) last year. He's not going to be the next Brett Favre out of Hattiesburg, but he should be the first Frank Gore out of there.
Gore, a COVID sophomore, will be eligible for the NFL draft this year. He plays for a bad team in college, but elite talent shows out anyway. Gore is active in the passing game as well, but the thing that stood out to me in the opener was the number of carries. The Eagles have used kid gloves on him for his first two years. If they turn him loose this year, look out!
Honorable mention: Chase Brown, Illinois; Braelon Allen, Wisconsin
Fantasy Football Dynasty Watch: Wide Receivers
Jacob Cowing, Arizona (8 receptions, 152 yards, 3 TD)
Cowing toiled away in relative obscurity at UTEP for three years and put up some big numbers there as well. He had 1,354 receiving yards last year on a decent UTEP team. However, Cowing's first game in a major conference showed what a difference having an accurate quarterback can make.
Cowing isn't a big guy, but he's a great route runner and has great hands. There is room for him on an NFL field. Cowing will likely be in the NFL after this collegiate season. Keep your eye on him. I've been following him closely since the end of his sophomore year. This guy is legit!
Honorable mention: Ricky White, UNLV; Keylon Stokes, Tulsa
Be sure to stay tuned all season long to see these coming attractions!
