Austin Hedges Needs To Produce Offensively
4 years agoSan Diego Padres catcher Austin Hedges has been a polarizing player. Since 2017, the 27-year-old’s been amongst the best defensive backstops in baseball. However, his offense has progressively diminished, culminating in a dreadful 47 wRC+ last year. While he’s bopped double-digit homers three consecutive seasons, Padres leadership has put pressure on Hedges to advance his on-base skills. With emerging catcher Francisco Mejia the better hitter and making strides defensively, this is likely a make-or-break season for Hedges in San Diego. Currently a fantasy afterthought at an ADP of 642, Hedges must improve on his career .617 OPS to prolong his major league livelihood.
