Austin Nola Limited To First Base During Rehab
4 years agoSan Diego Padres catcher Austin Nola (knee) has still been unable to catch as he goes through rehab. The 31-year-old has been limited to first base as he continues to deal with knee pain when squatting behind the dish. Nola has been limited to just 59 plate appearances this season due to hand and leg injuries, accumulating just one homer and 21 runs-plus-RBI while posting a .699 OPS. While it's undoubtedly a lost season for Nola drafters, he can still contribute if earns reps at first or second base a few times a week. Expected back during the Friars 10-game road trip, Nola could provide instant value at the catcher position as long as he remains efficient in his limited opportunities.

Austin Nola Not Starting Wednesday
3 years agoSan Diego Padres catcher Austin Nola is on the bench on Wednesday for a matchup with the San Francisco Giants and right-handed starter Logan Webb. Nola is hitting .263 with a .273 on-base percentage and a home run in 22 plate appearances this season. Instead, it'll be Jorge Alfaro starting behind the plate and batting eighth. So far, Alfaro has registered three hits in eight plate appearances for San Diego this season, including a home run. That being said, with the matchup with Webb, you're probably better off looking elsewhere for streaming options.
