6 years agoMiami Marlins starting pitcher Caleb Smith had a solid outing in the win over the Tigers. The lefty threw for five innings, giving up runs off of a 377 foot solo shot to right field by JaCoby Jones in the bottom of the third inning in addition to a single by Miguel Cabrera that scored one more. Overall, it was still a productive outing for the 27-year-old who struck out seven batters on the night. After amassing a 4-2 record throughout the first six games of the season, Smith took the loss in his previous two games prior to Tuesday night. Though he will continue to be a solid source for K’s for the remainder of the year, he will take some losses along the way as a result of the Marlins’ inconsistent offense that provides little run support.--Dennis Clausen - RotoBaller
