4 years agoDetroit Tigers starter Casey Mize struck out nine Toronto Blue Jays hitters on Thursday. Perhaps just as important, the rookie hurler did not allow a walk and threw 55 of his 72 pitches for strikes (76%). He gave up two runs on five hits over four innings of work. Prior to Thursday, Mize had walked 10 batters with 12 hits allowed, including four home runs, in 10 innings. He lowered his spring ERA to 8.36 over five appearances. The solid performance may have come too late for Mize to make the opening day roster but he certainly figures into the Tigers' 2021 plans. The former first-overall selection in the 2018 draft in ranked by Rotoballer as the 23rd-best prospect in baseball.--Marc Hulet - RotoBaller
