4 years agoDetroit Tigers top-pitching prospect Casey Mize may get the call to the Major League club this week as the team placed starter Ivan Nova on the injured list. In addition to Nova, Tyler Alexander is heading back to the bullpen so Detroit now has two open rotation spots as the surprise contenders are running out of reasons not to give Mize a shot as their rotation has struggled. Mize, the former first overall pick, is ranked by Baseball America as the number eight prospect in baseball thanks to a devastating fastball/splitter combo that generates tons of whiffs and weak contact.
