6 years agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale is scheduled to go five innings or 75 pitches against the Indians on Friday. Sale is slowly getting stretched out after coming off a left shoulder injury. Even with less than a full workload on Friday, Sale is a fine starting option against a team that doesn't really have anything left to play for as far as playoff seeding in the American League.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

3 years agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (finger) has started playing catch again, according to manager Alex Cora. However, the Red Sox haven't given a timetable for his return after having surgery on July 18, which was described as an "open reduction and internal fixation of a left fifth finger proximal phalarix fracture." Sale broke his left pinkie finger on a line drive against the division-rival New York Yankees in just his second start of the year on July 17. The 33-year-old southpaw got a late start to the 2022 season due to injured ribs, and now fantasy managers will have to wait for him again in what has been another lost season due to injuries. Sale is worth stashing in all fantasy leagues, but it remains to be seen how much he'll help down the stretch.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

3 years agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (finger) underwent an open reduction and internal fixation of a left fifth finger proximal phalanx fracture on Monday, according to the team. Sale fractured his left pinkie finger on a comebacker from New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks on Sunday, and he'll now be forced to miss around the next two months after just recently making his 2022 season debut after returning from a rib-cage fracture. It's been that kind of year for the 33-year-old southpaw, and although he's optimistic that he'll pitch again this year, fantasy managers in shallow mixed leagues might have no choice but to drop him for the start of the second half of the season.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

3 years agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (finger) will visit with a specialist in Boston and is confident that he'll pitch again in 2022 after fracturing his left pinkie finger on a line drive hit by New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks on Sunday. The Red Sox have given no timetable for his return, but Sale thinks he'll be ready to go in four to six weeks. The team will know more in a few days. Fantasy managers should expect the 33-year-old southpaw to be out for around two months. It's a tough break for a pitcher that was making only his second start of the season on Sunday after just returning from a fractured rib cage. We wouldn't blame you if you cut him loose in a shallow-mixed, single-season league.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

3 years agoBoston Red Sox left-hander Chris Sale (finger) left his start early on Sunday against the division-rival New York Yankees with a left fifth finger fracture. Sale was smoked by a comebacker off the bat of outfielder Aaron Hicks in the first inning of his start. He allowed two earned runs on two hits with no walks or strikeouts in just two-thirds of an inning. It's a tough break for the 33-year-old veteran, as this was just his second start of the season since returning from a fractured rib cage. There's no timetable for Sale's return, but fantasy managers have to expect him to miss extended time with his latest injury, possibly multiple months. If surgery is needed, Sale could miss the rest of the season. Prepare for the worst if you have him rostered.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
