5 years agoPortland Trail Blazers point/shooting guard C.J. McCollum embraced the lead role for his squad during Friday’s loss to the New Orleans Pelicans, collecting his second double-double of the season with 27 points and 10 assists to his credit. With Damian Lillard (groin) unavailable, McCollum shot 10-for-22 from the field overall, including 3-for-8 from deep, while taking on increased ball-handling duties. While the five turnovers were an unintended consequence of a usage rate spike, by adding six rebounds, McCollum delivered one of his best all-around performances of the season. With Lillard expected to miss a handful more contests, and Portland fighting for a playoff spot, McCollum should continue seeing an enormous workload Sunday against Detroit.--Jesse Borek
