Damian Lillard Drops Historic 61-Point MLK Day Performance
5 years agoPortland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard became just the sixth player in NBA history to record multiple 60-point performances when he dropped 61 points during Monday’s overtime win against the Golden State Warriors. His incredible offensive performance featured a 17-for-37 shooting night, including going 11-for-20 from behind the arc, setting new career highs in both makes and attempts. He iced the game from the free-throw stripe, where he made all 16 of his shots. His career-high 61 points set a new record for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, as Lillard also snagged 10 rebounds (tying his season high) and dished out seven assists. Aside from his career domination against the Warriors, Lillard’s offensive uptick was due in part to C.J. McCollum’s (ankle) absence. While replicating his outing Monday may prove difficult, Lillard could once again be in line for some heavy duty volume Thursday against the Mavericks should McCollum remain sidelined.
