David Peterson Named To Mets 60-Man Player Pool
4 years agoNew York Mets pitcher David Peterson has reportedly made the Mets 60-man player pool for the 2020 season. Peterson, the Mets top draft pick in 2017, was originally scheduled to begin the season at Triple-A back in March. However, because of Noah Syndergaard's injury, Michael Wacha will likely move into the starting rotation, leaving a hole at long relief and in the team's emergency starting pitching depth. In 2019, Peterson went 3-6 with a 4.19 ERA in 24 starts at Double-A. During spring training, Peterson impressed team officials by posting a 1.50 ERA and striking out six in six innings pitched, with an uptick in velocity. Should one of the Mets other starting pitchers get injured, or if Wacha, Rick Porcello, or Steven Matz falter at the back end of the Mets rotation, Peterson could find himself with a regular starting role on a contending team. Accordingly, Peterson should be on deep mixed and NL-only radars.
