6 years agoNew York Mets first baseman/outfielder Dominic Smith originally had the day off against the Colorado Rockies, but he was called upon anyway and he succeeded. Pinch hitting for starting pitcher Steven Matz and playing the outfield again, Smith picked up two hits in both trips to the plate -- a single and a double. He’s now picked up three extra-base hits in his last two games after not collecting any base knocks in the three games prior. While Smith is still a ways away from fantasy relevance, it’s great to see the former top prospect starting to emerge a little bit. With prospect Peter Alonso breathing down Smith’s neck, he knows he needs to start hitting in order to keep his spot.--John Smith
